Privateer Schooner Sailing Tour in Salem Sound

Overview
FAME is annually the #1-rated boat in Salem and one of the top-rated activities in the entire town, per TripAdvisor. Don't miss the very best of what Salem has to offer! There's more to our town than witches!

FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812 that captured over 20 prizes! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem.

On board our traditional gaff-rigged schooner, you'll get a chance to raise the sails and even steer the boat as we sail Salem Sound and talk about the fisherman, traders, and privateers that played such a central role in the saga of Salem, of Massachusetts, and of the young United States.

This is a great hands-on adventure for all ages — but you can also just sit back and enjoy a beverage and take it all in as we cruise past the historic forts and lighthouses of Salem, Beverly, and Marblehead.

That was the best experience of my life so far! Gabby is my daughter. She bought these tickets for us while we were in Salem. I have never had more fun in my life! The captain, crew, and the captain's wife are all wonderful! Not only is it an amazing trip in the harbor, but I hoisted the sails, and I was allowed to steer the Schooner. If you could do one thing in Salem, do this!! Jibe Ho!!! Loved it so much, I came back the neck day for a "Fame of Salem" cap.

That's very high praise, Gabby :) I feel the need to point that you and I are not related, we never met before, and you do not have any financial stake in the schooner :) Come back any time! — Capt. Mike

This was our fourth sail on the Fame, and it was as wonderful as always. The late afternoon light on Salem Sound was just sublime. Although we didn't have much of a breeze for sailing, slowly motoring around the sound with our sails up was still an incredible experience. There's no scripted tour here, and captain Mike is incredibly knowledgeable about maritime history, so we have learned something new on every sail. A must do for any visit to Salem!

It's always fun to go on the Fame rum cruise. A fun way to end the summer. We met some great people who were visiting Salem And of course the music with the great Tobias Tripp is always fun.
