Privateer Schooner Sailing Tour in Salem Sound

Overview
FAME is annually the #1-rated boat in Salem and one of the top-rated activities in the entire town, per TripAdvisor. Don't miss the very best of what Salem has to offer! There's more to our town than witches!

FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812 that captured over 20 prizes! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem.

On board our traditional gaff-rigged schooner, you'll get a chance to raise the sails and even steer the boat as we sail Salem Sound and talk about the fisherman, traders, and privateers that played such a central role in the saga of Salem, of Massachusetts, and of the young United States.

This is a great hands-on adventure for all ages — but you can also just sit back and enjoy a beverage and take it all in as we cruise past the historic forts and lighthouses of Salem, Beverly, and Marblehead.

enjoyed a great morning out on the schooner Fame. Leaving from the marina in Salem, on our trip the Fame cruised out into Salem Sound with good views of Salem, Winter Island, Beverly, Marblehead, and the many islands. The crew was very nice and provided great information about the history of the original Fame schooner, its crew, and the geography. They answered every question our tour mates had and made the trip really comfortable. Definitely worth the price of admission and even a private charter for a special event. Oh and be sure to ask them to fire the "cannon" ;)

The two of us booked this sail on line and didn't have any problems. The replica of the 1812 Schooner Fame was a nice working ship and well kept. We had about 30 people on board our evening sail. The crew was excellent and full of local knowledge about the area and the ship. We sailed for about 90 minutes around the Salem Sound and enjoyed it all. It's something for a couple or a family and was well worth it.

We bought the Groupons to sail on Fame and had no issues at all. It clearly stated on the instructions that they did not take reservations for groupon holders, and they laid out their hours of operation and even the fact that in inclement weather they could call the cancelation closer to sail time. With all this in mind, we planned our day knowing we had to be flexible, we got their 1.5 hours before sailing, easily made our reservation at the both and went on to have some drinks and appetizers at Victoria Station. The boat was smaller that I thought but ended up being just perfect, it was not crowded, maybe about 15 guests and plenty of room for a leisurely sale around Salem Sound. They did give a bit of a history of the boat and surrounding area. For those with kids, they gave a chance to help steer the ship and bring up the sails. The crew was very friendly, and nice. The ship had a bathroom below and sold snack and drinks including beer, wine and magheritas. It was a great way to spending the afternoon, which we continued on with some local shopping another local bar for drinks and dinner
