Privateer Schooner Sailing Tour in Salem Sound

Overview
FAME is annually the #1-rated boat in Salem and one of the top-rated activities in the entire town, per TripAdvisor. Don't miss the very best of what Salem has to offer! There's more to our town than witches!

FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812 that captured over 20 prizes! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem.

On board our traditional gaff-rigged schooner, you'll get a chance to raise the sails and even steer the boat as we sail Salem Sound and talk about the fisherman, traders, and privateers that played such a central role in the saga of Salem, of Massachusetts, and of the young United States.

This is a great hands-on adventure for all ages — but you can also just sit back and enjoy a beverage and take it all in as we cruise past the historic forts and lighthouses of Salem, Beverly, and Marblehead.

Everyone on the schooner was so knowledgeable and welcoming. We really enjoyed the history and background. Warm blankets were provided which was a really nice touch

Thanks for sailing! Melissa worked hard to make those blankets last winter!

Spectacular event worth a friendly mix of passengers and crew. There are opportunities to help the crew raise the sails and steer the ship. The crew also serves refreshments (for a minimal fee). There is an abundance of history the crew shares and the scenery is beautiful. And the coolest part of the trip: the captain fires a mini cannon!!! Great experience, well worth the visit.

It is a good experience. The check in was easy at the booth. Insider tip: go to the bathroom before the trip because the bathroom may be hard to get to for some on the boat. It rained on our voyage but they have blankets that covered us with no problem. They told us many historical stories including information about previous wars. They were available to answer any questions. The staff was nice and friendly. They warned you ahead of time when the cannon goes off so you (or your kids) can cover their ears. I was worried about going onto and off the boat. But they have a step stool and a staff member you can hang onto when you make the transition. Overall, I would do it again.
