Absolutely a1 trip. Knowledgeable guides, top equipment and safe for reasonably fit and healthy people. All equipment provided, boots and lifejackets. Great lunch and hot drinks at the end. Only saw the fantastic eagle's.

Thanks for your positive review. Yes the trip is safe for the reasonably fit. You do not need to paddle (like on our kayak trips) but you are out in the weather for 1.5 hours and there is no backrest. If you are up for it, the Raft trip provides an opportunity to access some wild country and see bald eagles in their natural habitat.

We met our contact at the ship/cruise pier. Walked about a block to the outfitter shed to get water boots. Departed by bus up to the launch point on the Chilkat River. Sighted several eagles at first. Even four that were "sharing" a fish. After a little while though, only a couple of sightings and some nests. The Chilkat River is a braided river so it is pretty shallow (at least in June). We only bottomed out once though and our guide, Ashley, quickly got us through, She was very knowledgeable about the river and the eagles. It was a good trip but I wished we would have seen more eagles.

Our raft guide had a depth of knowledge of the natural world that was exceptional. He expertly maneuvered our raft on a very windy day. I loved that he made time for silence as well so we could absorb the stillness of the wilderness. It was a truly spiritual experience. I saw many eagles in their nests and out finding fish. Thank you for my favorite adventure of my Alaskan holiday. I want to give a "shout out" to our bus driver who made sure we got back to our ferry to Skagway with plenty of time to "catch" our ship departure time!
