Road to Hana Day Trip

Overview
The Hāna Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of spectacular views of rainforest, waterfalls, beaches and coastline. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu on the Piilani Highway. Although Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive when no stops are made as the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hāna, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. This full-day trip to the Hana coast has the best scenic drive along the shorelines of Maui.

The Keanae overlook and peninsula offer views of one of the largest taro farms in Hawaii.

Sean was the tour guide for us. He left us in the middle of the trip saying my kid (2.5 years) is not cooperating the tour. My kid was cranky (she didn't cry continuously ) as she didn't have breakfast and breakfast was provided at 9am. The tour doesn't have any age limitation for kids but pls don't choose this tour if you have smaller kids as they will drop you in the middle of tour even if the kid cries slightly or cranky little bit. Since we didn't have car seat we had to wait for 2.5 hours this tour car to come and pick up. Seriously this tour should change the policy if they don't want kids and the tour guide was mean to leave us in the middle of tour. I decided for this tour since my friends took road to hana trip with kids. Anyway I got full refund.

We love kids on the tour. But bringing 2 year old on the tour is not recommended. Please do not just show up on the date of the tour with infants. We love children and infants. This tour is amazing nature tour for all to enjoy, but 10 hours of tour for 2 year old infant who is cranky in the morning would have been torture for the group. We do not have infant option on the reservation system. Please be considerate of others. If you have an infant, please let us know in advance to see if we can accommodate you and your family on the tour. If the baby was cranky and crying slightly even before the tour started, I think it would have been a disaster for other guests on the tour. We still had to go another 10 hours of 640 curves and turns and come out the other side. It would have been worst day for others. Sean is very passionate about his work and prides himself of giving 200% on all his tours. Sean did explain the situation and offered refund to remedy the situation. For the comfort of others, Sean made a decision so that others would enjoy the 12 hour tour. Jay the dynamic team

The road is a marvel of engineering, strength, pioneering and madness. A fun journey if you don’t mind the bumps and scary turns. The views are incredible, I booked with Viator.com who then secured transportation with dynamic tour. The driver David did his best to be accommodating and enlightening. My only issue is I booked for a ten hour tour because I had reservations for dinner two hours after the tour. Well seems Viator did not inform the driver who gave us a 12 hour tour and we missed our dinner reservations on our last night here. Mind you it was secured booking at the number one luau on the island. Quick tip, verify how long you will be there. It is an all day affair. Viator owes me a luau.

Our tour was amazing. Partially because of the sights, and partially because of our guide. Shawn was so knowledgeable and kept everything moving so there was never a dull moment. He was very friendly and added comedic value to our tour. The road is very windy and bumpy but he even made fun despite the motion sickness times. Great tour, awesome guide. Definite mat while you’re here. My only recommendation is that you do the tour during the beginning of your trip so you can get all of the inside information on that part of the island and plan accordingly.
