Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Get that front row feeling for highlights of 30+ years of induction ceremonies. This epic hall of fame pays homage to our inductees through an immersive concert-quality production and a space for fans to share their own stories. Another milestone being celebrated is 50+ years since the start of Rolling Stone Magazine, the counterculture start up that rose to the top by covering the cross-section of music, politics and pop culture. Here's a short list of our permanent, featured exhibits that help us show off our collection: • Roots of Rock & Roll • The Beat Goes On: an interactive exhibit to show who influenced your fav band • Elvis • Legends of Rock: featuring Guns N' Roses, David Bowie, the Supremes, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Parliament Funkadelic and many more • Cities and Sounds: Motown, Psychedelic, Punk, Grunge... The unmistakable styles that put cities across the country and across the pond on the musical map. • The Beatles • The Rolling Stones • Jimi Hendrix

On our first full day in Cleveland (Sunday April 10), we paid a visit to this pyramid-shaped building. We parked in the lot on the 9th Street Pier and then noticed the museum building also has an additional rectangle on the back. If you’re a Beatles fan, the bottom floor (floor 0) is certainly your place for all-things Beatles. From seeing their instruments and clothes, to listening to interviews and songs, it’s like they’re still a current band. Even though I appreciate their place in music history, the Beatles are not my favorite band. AC/DC, who was inducted back in 2003, is! There were only two items on display - one of Angus’ red schoolboy uniforms and Bon’s original handwritten copy of the lyrics to “Highway to Hell.” There was (and hopefully still is) one of Angus’ guitars on display inside the Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore. Speaking of cafes, there was one here. My wife and I had the cheesesteak, but wasn’t anything spectacular. We attributed that to us being used to having Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks locally. Finally, for $30 admission, I felt it was expensive. At the same time, I was glad to have experienced it.

Was really disappointed with the layout, wasted space, and the lacklustre way things were displayed, & jumbled together. I have seen better more interesting items displayed at Hard Rocks around the world, and at the country music museum in Nashville and I’m not even a country fan. Even the Beatles exhibit was ok, but not great. the gift store products are cheaply made and not geared towards towards the artists or music. Lots of lost opportunities here to highlight great artists and music moments in history. Also would have been nice to actually vote for the nominees this year on site, and not just be directed towards a website.

We surprised ourselves spending more than four hours instead of the recommended two. The tickets are timed and ours were for a 10:00 am entrance. There were no significant crowds but we still took the tip we found on the HOF website and started on the second floor. This meant we had the garage band space all to ourselves. We spent a 1/2 hour or more playing around with the instruments and the video tutorials. Branding your band and printing logo stickers is a must before leaving the second floor. The power of rock experience was loud and had lots of bright moving lights. Probably not good for those who are sensitive to overstimulation. The video clips were moving especially when multiple legends of rock were playing together on stage. Take time on the walk out of the theater to take note of the artists features that you may not have recognized. They are tagged in stills from the movie on the walls of the exit ramp. The best and most moving video display is the American Bandstand theater which you don’t have to wait for and is not so distractingly loud. We found ourselves tearing up with nostalgia as we watched icons from multiple decades appear and talk with Dick Clark. The top floor features videos of rock legends explaining different types of electric guitars and equipment which is actually very interesting and fun. Finally on the basement floor, level 0, you can see an overwhelming collection memorabilia, costumes, instruments and many video exhibits. We almost gave up halfway through but talk a bathroom break and dove back in to take it all in. This was a much better experience than expected. We are not rock history fanatics but loved it just the same.
