Ruby's Horseback Adventures Utah Half Day Ride

Overview
Rides are available for all ages and skill levels from beginner to expert. Our horseback tours wind through some of the most beautiful scenery that southern Utah has to offer. Come explore trails taken by old west outlaws and enjoy a rare chance to see remnants of ancient Native Americans. Some trails are more rugged than others so for safety reasons we require that children must be at least 7 years old to participate.

We have been all over the country (49 states total) and participated in many excursions including other horseback adventures. This excursion was by far the worst we have ever done. It is definitely the only bad review I have ever written for one of our many adventures. Here are the bullet points for our low rating: *it was very boring; one of the two guides told a couple of stories, but I was only able to hear most of one of them and the other story I heard almost none of it. The guides mainly stayed in the back of the pack or ride by themselves (there were 11 people not including the guides), so those of us in the front had a hard time hearing. *the scenery was boring; although we were technically riding through the red canyon, with the exception of a short part of the trip, the canyon could barley be seen through the trees. We were on a boring dirt trail. 15 minutes in I was ready to be done. *too long; all of the communication we had said the tour was 1pm-4pm. We arrived back at our vehicle at 5:30. We had 5:00 dinner plans that we ended up having to cancel. There were no issues with the ride that made things go slower, it was just very poorly organized and planned. The horses moved slowly for 4 miles there and then 4 miles back on the same path. * snarky guide; one guide, Kate, had a cute personality and loud voice, but the other guide, Ivy, had very little personality and was rude early on when asked a question about why a horse kept tripping. A more mature guide would have handled the situation better by kindly reassuring the guest by stating that horses will sometimes trip on the rocks but there is nothing to worry about. *the guides often were off riding by themselves talking instead of riding along side the rest of the pack- they kept commenting on how quiet we all were when they would eventually ride near us. If you have never been on a horse, are old, or you have small children, this ride might be a good time for you. If you have any experience at all with horses and/or you get out of your house much, you should probably skip it and find something more suitable. The previous day we hiked the 5 mile loop through the peek a boo trail at Bryce Point and saw another outfit guiding groups via horseback through there. The guides there seemed much more professional, and the scenery was much more beautiful. In the end, we regretted spending our money and the last day of our vacation on this excursion. It was very disappointing.

Please know that we always want every guest to have a top-notch visit, so I sincerely apologize for the uncomfortable ride. Fun, easy afternoon ride. Lots of great scenery without all the walking! This is NOT in Bryce Canyon, however. I thought I was booking a ride in the national park so I was a little disappointed initially. Our ride was in Red Canyon, which was beautiful ... just not what I was expecting. The next day while we were hiking Peek-a-Boo loop and the horses came by, I was like, "That's what I thought I was booking!" My husband said he would not have enjoyed riding a horse through Peek-a-Boo due to the drop-offs so it all worked out for the best. And again, our ride was FULL of beautiful scenery! Just pay attention to what you're booking ... obviously I didn't (but it worked out great)

The beauty of Red Canyon and the opportunity to share together. The horses were well trained and easy for a beginner.
