No need to miss the zoo if you did not rent a car in San Antonio. Just take the Via cultural bus 11B to the front entrance of the zoo. A great array of species and walking friendly terrain. Excellent butterfly exhibit with great photo opportunities. Numerous facilities to enjoy including food and gifts for those at home. A side note: San Antonio has a super public transit system with reasonable day pass ($2.75 each) to all its many tourist attractions. Take advantage of a low cost and rider friendly visitor benefit. From the Alamo to the Japanese Tea Garden, Zoo, Market Square, River Walk and Missions along the Mission Trail, it is an quick and excellent way to travel in San Antonio. Enjoy!

We highly recommend adding an animal experience to your day at the zoo. Though Viator doesn't offer these yet, we went to the zoo website and booked an experience with the tortoises, and it was incredible

This tour was absolutely amazing! The zoo staff was very friendly and all of the animals were beautiful. Their enclosures were very clean and they were being taken care of with love and kindness. I would highly recommend for young children and anyone who loves animals!
