San Diego Whale Watching Cruise

Overview

Whale watching season is all year long in San Diego! Our team at Next Level Sailing provides the optimal experience with guides so experienced we received a 100 percent success rate during winter whale watching when spotting the King of the Deep.

We are one of the best outdoor activities to do in San Diego. Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. Blue whales and fin whales are seen feeding in San Diego from April - August. Humpback whales and minke whales are seen throughout the year, particularly in the spring, summer, and fall. Aboard our 141-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of whales firsthand in their natural habitat. In addition to whales, we also see dolphins and sea lions, and an abundance of naval activity. Don't be surprised if you see an F-18 fly overhead!

This excursion is a three for one! Obviously the whale watching was informative and fascinating. We did see grey whales on their migration from Alaska to Mexico. This cruise is a sailing trip too. Lastly, there were military ships, fighter jets, and helicopters doing various activities around the bay. Dog friendly!

This trip was one of the high lights of my vacation. The boat ride was so smooth, and the scenery was simply beautiful. I would have loved the trip even if we had not seen a whale. However, we did spot a mother and her baby along with lots of dolphins, seals, and other wildlife. It is definite must do while in San Diego.

Whale watching off San Diego is awesome but doing it on a historical replica of the 1851 sailing ship America was even better. The ship was beautiful itself. Dec 10 we saw the first grey whales off SD this season. The crew was great. They found the whales and we followed a big grey one for well over a mile as it cruised just below the surface. So we saw him come up for air at least a half dozen times. Blankets were available for those who were chilled, drinks and snacks. But just being out on the ocean on a beautiful day was awesome.
