San Diego Whale Watching Cruise

Overview

Whale watching season is all year long in San Diego! Our team at Next Level Sailing provides the optimal experience with guides so experienced we received a 100 percent success rate during winter whale watching when spotting the King of the Deep.

We are one of the best outdoor activities to do in San Diego. Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. Blue whales and fin whales are seen feeding in San Diego from April - August. Humpback whales and minke whales are seen throughout the year, particularly in the spring, summer, and fall. Aboard our 141-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of whales firsthand in their natural habitat. In addition to whales, we also see dolphins and sea lions, and an abundance of naval activity. Don't be surprised if you see an F-18 fly overhead!

Great day, great weather. Well worth the wait to get all the way out to the ocean. Saw lots of Dolphins and they said there was 3 whales. The last few minutes getting ready to head in one whale decide to breach.

We watched 2 humpback whales traveling together for about an hour. There were many surface views and the finale was then both going in for a deep dive, showing the underside of their back fins.

Wow. This was on my life’s ‘bucket list’ and got a big ‘check mark’! Captain Troy and crew were attentive, knowledgeable and personable. I knew it would be chilly (Dec 8th) and certainly was, but dressing in layers is key and be sure to have a hoodie or knit cap. We stayed out on the water longer as our awesome spotter saw whale activity and we gladly agreed to stay out. They served hot chocolate on the way back in, and had plenty of chips, drinks, beer and wine too. Do this!! I went solo and had a great experience.
