Overview

Whale watching season is all year long in San Diego! Our team at Next Level Sailing provides the optimal experience with guides so experienced we received a 100 percent success rate during winter whale watching when spotting the King of the Deep.

We are one of the best outdoor activities to do in San Diego. Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. Blue whales and fin whales are seen feeding in San Diego from April - August. Humpback whales and minke whales are seen throughout the year, particularly in the spring, summer, and fall. Aboard our 141-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of whales firsthand in their natural habitat. In addition to whales, we also see dolphins and sea lions, and an abundance of naval activity. Don't be surprised if you see an F-18 fly overhead!

My wife and I went whale watching yesterday aboard the America sailing ship. The staff and the ship were amazing. If you’re concerned about the current COVID situation, please note, they are taking amazing precautions to keep both visitors and staff safe. Masks were worn, social distancing enforced, and the crew would wipe down the rails and bathrooms after each usage!! Every staff person, was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They even brought water, soda and snacks to you at no extra charge, although beer and wine did have a small fee. Impressive. We saw plenty of dolphins, but unfortunately no whales (which has happened on other tours previously). The difference with this company is that since they guarantee a whale sighting, they allowed us to rebook for a future date without charge. The ship is an impressive schooner (sail boat), with a storied history that provides a nice open air experience. We can’t wait until our re-booked experience!!
