Overview

Whale watching season is all year long in San Diego! Our team at Next Level Sailing provides the optimal experience with guides so experienced we received a 100 percent success rate during winter whale watching when spotting the King of the Deep.

We are one of the best outdoor activities to do in San Diego. Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. Blue whales and fin whales are seen feeding in San Diego from April - August. Humpback whales and minke whales are seen throughout the year, particularly in the spring, summer, and fall. Aboard our 141-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of whales firsthand in their natural habitat. In addition to whales, we also see dolphins and sea lions, and an abundance of naval activity. Don't be surprised if you see an F-18 fly overhead!

It was an exciting day. We have been on other whale watching excursions and by far this was our best experience, even through we did not see any wild life on this trip. We understand that we are at the mercy of the wide life. What made this trip so wonderful was the crew. They we all very polite and professional. Fathom was a great hostess and kept us entertained. The boat is magnificent and very clean. Covid-19 policies were followed to the tee and it was appreciated. The other aspect of the trip that may be overlooked was the fact we were able to see special activity from our Navy branch. We were lucky enough to see one of the Navy submarines coming out of dry dock and headed out to see. If was very special to see they crew standing in the crows nest and on the boat as they sailed out. We also got close an personal to a few of the destroyers which I did not realize how big they were. Each time we gave the sailors a Hip Hip Hurrah salute and waived to the crew. It was nice as they waived back. So the day was filled with other sites to see. Finally the captain took it personal that we did not see anything so we were invited back for another trip at no cost and no expiration date. Thank you for the wonderful day.

Amazing experience! Hospitality was awesome and the views of the ocean were beautiful. Unfortunately we did not see any whales, which was a bummer, but with no hesitation they insisted we come back free of charge next time we’re in town. That alone makes this place priceless!
