Santa Fe Railyard Farmers Market Food Tour

Overview
Skip the long lines and dive into the bold, smoky, and complex flavors of traditional New Mexican cuisine with a chef-guided lunch at La Choza—the beloved sister restaurant of The Shed. Starting in the Santa Fe Railyard, we’ll take a scenic stroll along the historic Rail Trail before settling in for an exclusive, three-course meal at this local favorite, renowned for its award-winning red and green chile.

Led by a culinary expert, this immersive lunch explores the origins and evolution of New Mexico’s distinct cuisine, with a comparative tasting that highlights the key differences between Mexican and New Mexican flavors. To elevate the experience, we’ll celebrate Santa Fe’s status as the Margarita Capital of America with a top-shelf margarita pairing for each course, showcasing different styles and expressions of this iconic cocktail.

After indulging in a feast of local flavors, we’ll finish on a sweet note with a locally inspired dessert at Santa Fe’s premier craft ice creamery

The tour was well-planned and well-organized. We went to delicious places and tasted some incredible food, as well as interesting spirits. Jay did a great job giving us a history of Santa Fe and the locations that we were visiting while also letting the people who ran the businesses to add their narrative to the meal. Such a fun tour! Glad I added this to my trip :).

I have been to Santa Fe two previous times, but was not aware of the Railyard area. We had a fun and informative tour with Jay, and would definitely recommend the Wander New Mexico Company. I would like to take the other two tour options on future trips. The food at the three restaurants was delicious, the owners of the restaurants were delightful, and the portions were surprisingly large. Several in our group made reservations at the restaurants on the spot. I don't drink so I would have enjoyed four restaurants rather than the distillery, but others in the tour group really enjoyed the distillery. All in all, it was a very enjoyable tour.

Hi Philip, I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed your tour with Jay and hope to take more Wander NM tours in the future! We're very excited to have partnered with the best restaurants in the Railyard District and to bring our guests in for "behind the scenes" access and a chance to meet with chefs and restaurant owners. You raise a good point about the distillery. We absolutely understand that a spirits tasting isn't for everyone, so with advance notice we can offer non-alcoholic alternatives. Those that do have an interest in trying spirits will find Santa Fe Spirits to be very unique, with the tasting focused on spirits that are hard to find and very unique to this area. I'm so glad that you chose to include us as a part of your visit to Santa Fe. Thanks for visiting and we hope to see you on another tour again soon! Cheers, Joe

To begin with, our guide Jay could not have been nicer. He was considerate enough to try to contact two people who weren't at the meeting point on time before beginning the tour (They made it before we had gone very far.). He was energetic and informative about the food and restaurant scene, including the history of the places we visited and some others we did not. It was easy to see that he has a passion for the tings he's talking about. He was also considerate of the folks on the tour to make sure everyone was comfortable. He even seemed to have built a genuine rapport with the people who spoke with us at the establishments we visited. At each restaurant, we were given enough food to really get an idea of the type of cuisine each had to offer. By the end of the tour, we had definitely had a whole meal. This included wine and drinks as well. At the distillery, we also sampled several spirits. One person in our group even bought a bottle to take home. Several people also made reservations at the restaurants on the spot. At each establishment, we got to meet at least one of the owners/chefs/sommeliers and in each case, they spent time with us explaining the food and drink we were experiencing. The food covered everything from authentic New Mexican to some of the highest rated cuisine in the city. And it was all within walking distance of the Railway District. This was a fantastic experience, especially for the price. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Fe.
