Santa Fe Railyard Farmers Market Food Tour

Overview
Skip the long lines and dive into the bold, smoky, and complex flavors of traditional New Mexican cuisine with a chef-guided lunch at La Choza—the beloved sister restaurant of The Shed. Starting in the Santa Fe Railyard, we’ll take a scenic stroll along the historic Rail Trail before settling in for an exclusive, three-course meal at this local favorite, renowned for its award-winning red and green chile.

Led by a culinary expert, this immersive lunch explores the origins and evolution of New Mexico’s distinct cuisine, with a comparative tasting that highlights the key differences between Mexican and New Mexican flavors. To elevate the experience, we’ll celebrate Santa Fe’s status as the Margarita Capital of America with a top-shelf margarita pairing for each course, showcasing different styles and expressions of this iconic cocktail.

After indulging in a feast of local flavors, we’ll finish on a sweet note with a locally inspired dessert at Santa Fe’s premier craft ice creamery

Host Jay was a great host. Restaurant choices were great too. Each restaurant host (owner) gave a speech about the restaurant and then we had a generous sampling of their fare. We even went back to State Capitol Kitchen the next night and had the full diner. Those employees were fantastic as a side note as they made my wife a special dessert for my wife who is allergic to eggs. The exploding truffles were great! Anyway the food tour was great!

Hi Richard, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the tour with Jay and all of the interactions with the owners and chefs at each of the restaurant stops. It's great that Chef Mark at State Capital Kitchen made you a special egg free dessert, in addition to being an incredibly talented chef he also trained as a pastry chef at CIA Greystone, so I'm sure it was delicious. They're always great at State Capital Kitchen with dietary restrictions and special requests, so I always encourage people to go there in these instances. Thanks for taking a tour with Wander New Mexico and for visiting Santa Fe! Cheers, Joe

We had a fabulous time. We would have missed a wonderful area of town had it not been for the tour. Jay was an excellent guide, he was very knowledgeable and fun!!! We will go on the tour again with others and specifically, ask for Jay. We enjoyed meeting others. It was a great group. I loved the State Capital Kitchen, best food in town. The food in the entire city is excellent.

Hi Jamie, I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed your tour with Jay! I agree the Railyard is a hidden gem of a neighborhood that a lot of visitors to our city don't get to experience, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. I'm also happy to hear you enjoyed State Capital Kitchen! They are the Santa Fe Reporter's Restaurant of the Year so we're thrilled that Chef Mark Connell opens his doors just for our tours. Safe travels and thanks for visiting Santa Fe! Cheers, Joe

We visited a small portion of the vastly spread out Railyard area, but walking through the whole deal was certainly an experience you don't get on a drive by. The four places we stopped for food and libation were distinctively different and had excellent offerings. Four of us went back in the evening to the State Capitol Restaurant on Sandoval for the chef's tasting which was exquisite, but $$$$. Our guide, Jay, was very informed about Santa Fe history, and shared it in an engaging manner. And, the more booze we sampled, the funnier Jay got! 😄
