Santa Fe Railyard Farmers Market Food Tour

Overview
Skip the long lines and dive into the bold, smoky, and complex flavors of traditional New Mexican cuisine with a chef-guided lunch at La Choza—the beloved sister restaurant of The Shed. Starting in the Santa Fe Railyard, we’ll take a scenic stroll along the historic Rail Trail before settling in for an exclusive, three-course meal at this local favorite, renowned for its award-winning red and green chile.

Led by a culinary expert, this immersive lunch explores the origins and evolution of New Mexico’s distinct cuisine, with a comparative tasting that highlights the key differences between Mexican and New Mexican flavors. To elevate the experience, we’ll celebrate Santa Fe’s status as the Margarita Capital of America with a top-shelf margarita pairing for each course, showcasing different styles and expressions of this iconic cocktail.

After indulging in a feast of local flavors, we’ll finish on a sweet note with a locally inspired dessert at Santa Fe’s premier craft ice creamery

Four fabulous stops, that included posole, spring dish of morels and other vegetables paired with a Spanish white wine, green Chile beef stew and piñon chocolate cake....just to mention some! This was the first tour for Jay and he did an amazing job and with that mustache, he couldn’t go wrong. I would recommend this tour for anyone, which includes some history of the area and the talks from the owner/chefs were amazing also. You can’t get this access and intimacy anywhere else!

Hi Chris, I'm so happy to hear you found each of the stops to be fabulous - I was getting hungry just reading your descriptions of the dishes you were served on the tour! Morel mushrooms are a real treat and something highly seasonal, so you're lucky that Chef Mark at State Capital Kitchen had some for the tour that day! I very much agree with you that you can't get the access to the restaurants unless you take a tour. We're very lucky to have many of the top restaurants in Santa Fe open their doors and welcome our groups for private 1x1s with the chefs (before they open to the public!). Finally, I'm also glad to hear Jay did an amazing job. He is one of our newer guides and a very welcome addition to the team. Thanks for taking the time to write a review! Cheers, Joe

This was above and beyond the experience I expected and undoubtedly one of the highlights of my trip to Santa Fe. Well-balanced and perfectly executed, the opportunity to explore by foot and mouth the historical and culinary backdrop of this New Mexican town elicited both awe and inspiration. Highly recommended~

Hi Ryan, It was my pleasure to have you on my Off the Beaten Path tour of Santa Fe's Railyard Arts District. We had such a fun group that day, and I loved all of your questions about what it's really like to live here and call Santa Fe a home. I hope you travelled safely back to Colorado. Next time you're back bring your wife and newborn! Cheers, Joe

This tour put together an interesting combination of railyard history, behind--the-scenes stories, and a range of unexpected dishes. We were glad to meet the warm and friendly owner of La Choza, a third generation Mexican restauranteur, and taste both a traditional New Mexican posole side-by-side with a Mexican version, both delicious. The Atapina liqueur at Santa Fe Spirits was unusual and smooth. The savory Bolognese sauce made by humble and talented Chef Mark at State Capital Kitchen, paired with an expertly chosen Napa Valley red blend was out of this world, and his lesson about pasta making added to the experience. The Chipotle sauce served with mussels at Sonder was smoky and satisfying. Our tour guide Jackie made us all feel like old friends, and provided background and humor as she guided us expertly through a memorable tasting adventure! We recommend this tour for a great introduction to the foods of Santa Fe.

Hi Elissa, Thanks for the thoughtful review! I couldn't agree more with your description, and I'm glad you found the tour to an interesting combination of history, behind the scenes stories and unexpected dishes as that's exactly what we want people to take away from the "Off the Beaten Path" Railyard Tour! Finally, I'm glad to hear your group felt like old friends on your three and a half hours together. Food and drink certainly brings people together, and it was our pleasure to have you be a part of the Wander NM experience during your tasting adventure. Safe travels and I hope to see you back again on another one of our tours! Cheers, Joe
