Santa Fe Railyard Farmers Market Food Tour

Overview
Skip the long lines and dive into the bold, smoky, and complex flavors of traditional New Mexican cuisine with a chef-guided lunch at La Choza—the beloved sister restaurant of The Shed. Starting in the Santa Fe Railyard, we’ll take a scenic stroll along the historic Rail Trail before settling in for an exclusive, three-course meal at this local favorite, renowned for its award-winning red and green chile.

Led by a culinary expert, this immersive lunch explores the origins and evolution of New Mexico’s distinct cuisine, with a comparative tasting that highlights the key differences between Mexican and New Mexican flavors. To elevate the experience, we’ll celebrate Santa Fe’s status as the Margarita Capital of America with a top-shelf margarita pairing for each course, showcasing different styles and expressions of this iconic cocktail.

After indulging in a feast of local flavors, we’ll finish on a sweet note with a locally inspired dessert at Santa Fe’s premier craft ice creamery

We did the Railyard tour first and then did the Sip and Savor the next day. There is really no overlap between the two but the "heavier" food tour was the Sip and Savor. Both were very interesting and well conducted. Adrienne did our Sip and Savor tour and she was very knowledgeable about the history of Santa Fe and how it connected to overall USA history. The food selections and restaurant stops were all top rate. We tried to not go to the restaurants on the lists but they apparently change it up quite a bit so don't let that be your guide. The Railyard tour was also good but just not as long (fewer stops with less overall food). This area is up and coming and our young guide was perfect for bringing this area to life for us. I highly recommend doing both if you are in Santa Fe.

Hi! I always love it when people take both tours and I'm even happier to hear you enjoyed both! I agree, there is very little overlap between the two, it really depends on which neighborhood and time period of history you are most interested in. "Sip and Savor" is the Plaza neighborhood (more touristy), and we cover all of Santa Fe's history over four hours. "Off the Beaten Path" is the Railyard neighborhood (more of a local's hangout), and we focus on the arrival of the railroad in 1880 and how drastically that event shaped the Santa Fe that we know today. Both tours fantastic, and I think portion sizes really does depend on the day. I always tell people to have a big brunch the day of the tour, and to show up to the tour ready to eat but not starving. Most people will find the tour functions as a lunch replacement, and they like to have something light for dinner afterwards. We do mix up the restaurants but for those interested a list of stops is listed on our website. If anyone is curious about the stops that will be visited on a particular day they can contact us at [email protected]. We always aim to show people a cross-section of the best of Santa Fe - some fine dining, some New Mexican, some hidden gems, and of course a winery or a distillery stop. Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review! Next time you're back you will have to check out the new Canyon Road tour - you'll be the first person ever to have taken all three tours! (other than me of course lol). Cheers, Joe

Went on the tour with a friend and was absolutely wowed by the experience. The Railyard Arts District is an up and coming downtown area with numerous top restaurants, La Choza, State Capital. Visit to the distillery was also a highlight of the trip. This is a must do when you visit Santa Fe!

Hi Nora, I'm so happy to hear you feel our tour is a "must do"! We're very lucky to be working with many of the best chefs - as people who LOVE food we're very opinionated about restaurants (as you can imagine) and we go to great lengths to make sure our tours highlight the best of Santa Fe. I'm also glad to hear you found Santa Fe Spirits to be a highlight of your trip! I couldn't agree more - the products they are distilling are very unique to this area and something not to be missed. Safe travels, and I hope to see you in Santa Fe again in the future! Cheers, Joe

This tour is an absolute must do while you’re in Santa Fe! The online description doesn’t do the experience justice. The food alone would have been worth the price but we were treated to intimate visits by all of the chefs; each describing their passion for the restaurant and Santa Fe. Our tour guide Jay was wonderful. He was caring and informative. Book early to get a spot!!

Hi Whitney, I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed your tour and found it a "must do" while visiting Santa Fe! Passion is definitely something we try to highlight on the tours - we find that being able to hear directly from the chefs and owners about what makes their restaurant special or how a particular dish is made brings so much more depth of perspective to a dining experience. This type of "behind the scenes", intimate experience is what we aim for so I'm glad to hear you found this in your experience! You make a good point about booking early - tours almost always sell out so we do encourage people to plan in advance where possible! If the date someone wants is not available they can always contact us at [email protected] to be added to a waiting list. Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and again I'm so glad you enjoyed your tour experience! Cheers, Joe
