Sarasota Guided Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Tour

Overview

There is a reason that the Mangrove Tunnels of Lido Key are a must-do experience when visiting the Gulf Coast. We launch from Ted Sperling Nature Park (190 Taft Dr Sarasota FL) which has clean restrooms, a rinsing shower, and shaded picnic tables. Our amazing local guides from Sea Life Kayak Adventures take you on a tour of Little Sarasota Bay, where you may see manatees, dolphins, a variety of birds and sea life...then finish up in the famous mangrove tunnels, a beautiful canopy that meanders thru an island. The tour usually goes around 2 hours, but we aren't on a strict schedule, so please allow for an extra half hour. We are located just minutes from downtown Sarasota, 20 minutes from Siesta Key, and a half hour from Anna Maria Island and Bradenton (add time for traffic during high season. We meet a HALF HOUR before our tours)

Such a fun experience thanks to our tour guide, Chris! He is very knowledgeable, so we learned a lot about the wildlife and the area while we kayaked. Although it's never guanteed to spot manatee, he seemed to be an expert in finding them and we saw many. And the tunnels through the mangroves were absolutely breath taking. Chris was also amazingly patient with my 12 year old daugher who got tired and needed a little help part way through...thanks for making this adventure a highlight of our trip, we'll definitely be back next time we're in Florida!

We booked the mangrove tunnel tour for our beach vacation and so glad we did. We rented two tandem kayaks with our 9 yr old daughter and 11 yr old son. We saw dolphins and manatees. Not to mention a lot birds and fishes which our tour guide was extremely informative. Kayaking through the mangroves was really exciting and tour guide did an outstanding job explaining the different mangrove plants and pointing out starfish, sea urchin, black crabs...it was fun and educational. Highly recommended!

We had so much fun. Chris was not only knowledgeable about the bay between Bird Key and Lido, his love for the area was obvious. His own enthusiasm was matched by ours. In the bay were manatees just below the surface, bottle nosed dolphins skimming for lunch, cormorants scooting beside and under our kayaks, and more. Navigating the mangrove tunnels was fun. With polarized sunglasses glasses, which some of us were wearing, we were able to see sheephead, small snook, baitfish and other creatures beneath the surface in the tunnels. There were perhaps thousands of small crab to be seen on the moist lower branches of the mangroves. On one of the lower branches a small water snake soaked up some warmth. We would definitely do this tour again.
