Sarasota Guided Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Tour

Overview
There is a reason that the Mangrove Tunnels of Lido Key are a must-do experience when visiting the Gulf Coast. We launch from Ted Sperling Nature Park (190 Taft Dr Sarasota FL) which has clean restrooms, a rinsing shower, and shaded picnic tables. Our amazing local guides from Sea Life Kayak Adventures take you on a tour of Little Sarasota Bay, where you may see manatees, dolphins, a variety of birds and sea life...then finish up in the famous mangrove tunnels, a beautiful canopy that meanders thru an island. The tour usually goes around 2 hours, but we aren't on a strict schedule, so please allow for an extra half hour. We are located just minutes from downtown Sarasota, 20 minutes from Siesta Key, and a half hour from Anna Maria Island and Bradenton (add time for traffic during high season. We meet a HALF HOUR before our tours)

The two of us went on the 1PM tour at the end of March. We had reserved online the night before. It was $110 for the two of us. We were a little confused by where it was at. Itā€™s not a building, but a launching site where several other kayak companies also launch. The group did seem a little bigger than I had originally expected. Other companies were launching at the same time so it was a bit chaotic. The kayaking itself was easy and beautiful. Our tour guide, Chris, was great. The mangrove tunnels were very cool to go through. The other reviews and the description mentioned animals, but we only saw a few birds, fish, and tree crabs. Obviously, you canā€™t always predict the wildlife, but if had I known weā€™d only see some birds and fish, I might have chosen another kayak place that I had heard about where you encounter alligators. We had sunny weather with just a bit of wind, and our tour was about 2 hours. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon, but not completely mind blowing.

3 generations of us (from 7-70 years old) enjoyed this outing. We had 3 double kayaks and were led by guide-extraordinaire Chris. It was fairly windy morning, but Chris guided us through the mangrove tunnels and across the bay with good humor and excellent skills. We saw dolphins, manatees, birds of all sorts and other interesting creatures along the way. Bring along a change of clothes for after the tour. Also bring a bottle of water and your camera in a zip lock bag. We enjoyed it so much, we are returning next week with our other children and grandchildren.

We highly recommend the guided tour by Chris of Sea Life Kayak Adventures. We were thrilled to see a mother and calf dolphin and manatee 15 feet away from our kayaks. We loved the mangrove tunnels, and our 13 year old daughter helped to lead some of the tour through the mangrove tunnels which is something I'm sure she will never forget. Chris was very knowledgeable, fun and took excellent care of all of the group. This was definitely one of the highlights of our family vacation.
