An outstanding evening of history, food and entertainment.
I've traveled all over and taken more history and haunted tours than I can count. This one really stood out. Now, I really dig old cemeteries (pun intended) and I love stories about the history of a place, especially the unusual and the "supernatural".
Shannon Scott (tour leader and owner) covers a bit of everything. Savannah and Bonaventure Cemetery history, some of the more interesting characters who lived and died here. Sordid stories of crime, punishment, star-crossed love and possible spirits. All among devastatingly beautiful monuments, statues and Spanish moss draped landscapes.
A major bonus is that the tour takes place after the gates are closed to the public and it's the only tour allowed there at that time. No running into competing tours shouting to be heard over each other or traffic. It's just you and the cemetery, undisturbed.
After the approx. 2hr tour you make your way to dinner at a local restaurant, in this case Sisters of the New South. They laid out a nice spread of Southern staples (fried chicken, pork chops, mac n cheese, banana pudding, peach cobbler, etc.) and Shannon continues with his stories and exhibits some artifacts from his own collection while you get to know some of your fellow tour-ists around the dinner table.
Overall it's a great evening and value for the price. Sadly I've taken way too many tours that were not even close to worth the price of admission and a waste of my valuable travel time. This one was worth every minute and penny.
