Bonaventure Cemetery
During this 2.5 hour tour, you will be joining a very exclusive club of people who have seen the cemetery after it closes to the public. Not since it opened in 1846 has this been an opportunity, but thanks to your very special local host, now it is. You are literally locked in the cemetery the entire time; for the right taker, there's no price you can put on the joy of that. Imagine having the serenity, stillness, and quiet of the cemetery, uninterrupted by the living world. Stories stretch from the present day all the way back to Bonaventure's plantation beginnings in 1754. Our topics range from the funny and uplifting to the macabre at its most morbid. Some of the stories that will be covered include those of: • A "hooch runner" for Al Capone • A bizarre love story that ended in one murder and one visit to the electric chair • Savannah's role in The DaVinci Code • Lady Minerva & Jim Williams in Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil

I'm not 100% sure what I expected of this tour, but I'm REALLY glad we did it! We actually extended our stay in Savannah for to be able to join Shannon on a Saturday night. This is a totally unique experience with an amazingly passionate historian and story-teller. I wish we had the time during our trip to visit Bonaventure during daylight hours (particularly after the tour) to see more of its beauty. I also wish I had done a bit more research on the cemetery prior to our visit to have more of an idea of what we were getting into (and also to develop some questions to ask on the tour). There are no lights in the cemetery (he will provide lanterns as it gets dark) so if you are planning on taking photos, you may want to consider a tri- or monopod.

This tour was amazing. Blew all of my expectations away. You can tell Shannon loves Bonaventure and the City of Savannah with every part of his soul. The stories we heard and the people we learned about will not soon be forgotten. Shannon is such an incredible historian & magical storyteller. You feel like you've made new friends as you walk out of the gates. Truly an unforgettable experience all the while being extremely respectful towards the final resting place of so many. Wear comfy shoes & bring bug spray. Definitely will be back any time i'm in Slow-vannah.

Shannon is so knowledgeable about not only the cemetery, but the folks who lived in and around Savannah. Really enjoyed hearing the stores. Loved the nighttime tour because you get to see many things while it is still light out, and then it gets REALLY dark at night (not a light on at all!) - except for the lanterns we carry around. Very cool experience, for sure!
