We have done food tours in many cities, and this is the first one where three of the five stops were places that have a national presence. One was a national-based spiced shop, and when the guide was asked what spices were used in food from the area, the response was, I don't cook. In addition, the guide was less than informative and not able to answer many questions about the food, history or area. The two local restaurants provided great food. It was disappointing that we walked past numerous local establishments and stopped at the national ones. I would not recommend this food tour.

My wife and I took the Savor the Flavors of Charleston tour on a Saturday morning. Fran was our guide, and, as a lifelong resident of the area, she was very knowledgeable about the food and also the history of the city. Our initial interactions with Bulldog Tours was amazing; they were very easy to work with and the staff was helpful and friendly. We preregistered and paid ahead, so they made it very easy to get started once we arrived. We started our tour at Lowcountry Bistro by the Market, where we had a brunch brunch of home fries, local sausage and a poached egg. It was delicious. The egg was perfectly cooked and the home fries were nicely browned and crunchy. We also had fish stew at a seafood restaurant, homemade pork rinds and pulled pork local BBQ joint, pralines at a homemade candy shop, and visited a spice and tea shop. All-in-all, it was a great tour. I would recommend it to anyone who loves good food.

We had a group of six women who had made several visits to Charleston in recent years and we decided to try something different this trip. Fran was our tour leader. Her understated, easy going style suited us perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of food provided. One person in our group is allergic to shellfish and she was given a delicious alternative meal at one restaurant. Be sure to state any allergies when you book the tour and then reconfirm when you check-in.
