Overview

Walk, talk and taste your way through historic Charleston South Carolina. This small-group 2.5-hour tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry and allow you to experience a remarkable culinary scene in downtown Charleston. Stops along the way will include many of the city’s leading restaurants through out the city. Typical tastings include: stone ground grits, Southern pralines, sweet tea, collard greens, Lowcountry barbeque, and fried green tomatoes.

Built in the early 1800's, this four block historical landmark was originally the city's grocery store. Today, the City Market is home to a variety of local vendors that sell their art, crafts, and local wares.

First off, we did the food tour with Jack and he was fantastic; He was a great host, patient and we learned a lot from him. We often take food tours in a new city as a way to learn the locals favorite eateries while learning the history of the area. He also did not rush us and we appreciated the extra time to fully appreciate and rest at the dining stops. Our biggest disappointment was in the first 2 stops; being they were franchised retailers/eateries that our entire group of 8 had either been to in other cities in the US, or in the case of Spice Tea Exchange, half of us have this store in our hometown. We recognize this location had a few local blends specific to this area; but in general the ambiance of starting a costly tour with not one but 2 establishments that were not unique/ local to the Charleston food scene was a bummer. The remaining stops were amazing; and in alignment with our expectations of this tour introducing us to the hometown food scene Lastly, we walked much further than the approx one mile as listed in the FAQ section of their website

We had a great time on this tour. Jack Kelly was incredibly knowledgeable and definitely answered so many questions off script. The restaurant and food portions were perfect sized and samples of some of the best of Charleston. The day was very hot and Jack did a good job of giving us time to stop in the shade and plenty of water breaks. Would recommend this tour to others.
