Overview

Walk, talk and taste your way through historic Charleston South Carolina. This small-group 2.5-hour tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry and allow you to experience a remarkable culinary scene in downtown Charleston. Stops along the way will include many of the city’s leading restaurants through out the city. Typical tastings include: stone ground grits, Southern pralines, sweet tea, collard greens, Lowcountry barbeque, and fried green tomatoes.

Built in the early 1800's, this four block historical landmark was originally the city's grocery store. Today, the City Market is home to a variety of local vendors that sell their art, crafts, and local wares.

My adult daughter and I took the Savor Charleston food tour the first day of our visit. It had a nice variety of Southern foods:grits, beignets, fried chicken slider, deviled egg, banana pudding, and fried green tomatoe with pimiento cheese. Lots of history provided as well. We liked it so much we took a Charleston Stroll tour the next day, great walking route saw many historical houses and churches with interesting anecdotes. Our guide for both was Jack Kelly very knowledgeable and interesting. Tour company was well run and easy to work with would recommend.

This tour not only gave us a sense of the history of Charleston, but also an idea of the history of the cuisine that shaped this region. Oh, and the food was delicious! Faith Rose was an excellent tour guide!
