Overview

As the Pigeon River comes out of the steeper parts of the gorge it calms down a bit. Beginning at our outpost, the Lower Section of the Pigeon River is perfect for those looking for a scenic float trip of the Smoky Mountains. Ages 3 and up. Experience is not required, and each raft will have one of our professional guides.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness

Guests will then meet their personal guide and recieve the necessary equipment,

After your guide double-checks to make sure all equipment is fitted properly, guests then hop on our bus for a short 10-minute ride to the launching point for your trip.
All guest must have secured shoes on, NO FLIP FLOPS / NO BARE FEET

We were signed up for the 12:30 float, but we had so much rain the 24 hrs before our trip, that the float was more of a rafting experience. I was a little nervous, since our youngest child is only four, but Brett, our guide, reassured us that she'd be okay, and we had her sit on the floor on the center of the raft in the safest location. The ride ended up being really fun. We hit some waves and got wet, since the water was so fast and high. In the end, once we were all safe on dry land, we were happy that it wasn't just a float. The kids really enjoyed the experience and will always remember it. This was a our first time rafting, and we would definitely do it again and would try the upper when all the kids are old enough. Big Creek employees were great. They woman at the desk answered all of my questions on phone and in person. They seemed truly concerned for everyone's safety with the high water and were canceling trips on the upper river. The guide who gave us safety instructions was very informative and friendly. Our guide, Brett, seemed excited to do his job and was easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the river and rafting.

Our family of 5, 3 kids- 10,8,and 5 had a great time with our guide Amanda. We felt very safe and she was fun and knowledgeable about the river. Our kids loved swimming in the river between the sections of rapids. We wish the lower section was longer but our kids were to small/young for the upper section. Highly recommend this owner operator business. Very much not a corporate feel.

Time sure can fly when you're having fun. We often hear that folks wish their river trip was longer so we created a Full Day Adventure package on our website to help extend our guest's experience and time on the river. The trip combines the Whitewater Trip (Upper) and Scenic Float trip (Lower) with a break between for lunch. Once the kids meet the weight/age limits, we would love to have you back to experience a Full Day Adventure with us! Thank you for the high recommendation. We loved the family float. It was an introduction to white water rafting and we loved every minute of it! We’ll definitely be back and ready to try the next level! Brett was a great guide!
