we went out on a 2 hour boat trip in the hope of seeing whales and dolphins - nature being nature we didn't see whales but plenty of dolphins. The boat was clean and well maintained and the staff were really knowledgeable on all aspects of marine life. I thoroughly recommend the trip and the company - choose the right time of year for the whales though - they are good but even Oceanside Adventures can't fix that !

It was mom's 80th birthday weekend and we were looking for something different to do in northern San Diego County with her and several out-of-town guests. One of the issues we always have is mom's use of an electric scooter and her being nervous about accessibility and becoming a burden for everyone. (We also didn't want to deal with weekend beach traffic if we had chosen the downtown SD whale watching boats) We decided to give the relatively new Oceanside Adventures a try and they could not have been more supportive and helpful to our group of eight. First, the boat is very comfortable with a single level, an open deck, and plenty of room to move around as wildlife is spotted. The ramp to the boat allowed for easy access for the scooter and at least one baby stroller on our trip with crew assisting to assure a safe boarding. Our wildlife viewing started in the harbor with seal lions playing around the boat. A large sunfish was spotted not far from the harbor -a new sighting for our group despite many previous whale watching trips under our belts. A crew member spotted a spouting Minke whale but it was elusive when the boat got closer. Finally, we came upon a huge group of common Dolphins -generally not a sighting to get too excited about but in our case it was spectacular. About 400-600 dolphins jumping, surfing, playing around the boat was unlike anything we'd ever seen. Despite finding the group at the "turn around" point of our trip, the captain stayed with the Dolphins for a long time with everyone getting great views of the graceful animals. It was a great trip especially for our mom who didn't think she'd ever again get on the water due to her scooter/wheelchair. We'll be back again - thank you Oceanside Adventures for being part of mom's 80th birthday weekend and impressing us & our out of town guests!

Disappointed that the expectations set at the reservation booth so differed from the tale presented by the on board staff. We are frequent whale watch goers on the East coast and only went on this trip to see a blue whale, which we were told were in the area until Oct. Learning upon leaving the dock that a blue whale has not been seen since July was disheartening. But it was a lovely day to be on the water, and even seeing dolphins would have been a treat. after over an hour, we saw a minke whale but most of the information cited by the captain, or whoever he was, conflicted with what we know about minke whales. Maybe our info doesn't apply on the west coast. But having an experienced naturalist on board was lacking. More of a cruise than an educational adventure.

Hello Celeste C, We appreciate your feedback and have delved into this situation with our staff. Our team at Oceanside Adventures consistently strives for superior customer satisfaction and we were sorry to hear we did not exceed your expectations. We would appreciate you contacting us with hopes of coming up with a mutual solution for a favorable opinion of Oceanside Adventures. As you may know, we cannot possibly guarantee what whales and dolphins you will see on any trip during any time of the year as they are wild animals. We can tell you what is "possible" to see during specific times of the year and we also post our daily sightings on our website under the SIGHTING LOG so everyone can follow along. We do guarantee if you don't see any whales or dolphins we will give you a Marine Mammal check to come back out with us and try again, which has no expiration date. I can also assure you that our Captain, who is also the narrator is a certified marine naturalist with the American Cetacean Society. Please give us a call at 760-277-3073 at your earliest convenience. Thank you again.
