Shell Key Ferry from Ft. DeSoto Boat Ramp in Tierra Verde, FL

Overview
This trip is one of a kind… If you want to travel to an uninhabited barrier island with white sand, warm water, and shelling galore, our ferry to Shell Key from the Fort De Soto boat ramp is a great choice for you and your family! Our ferry boat operates daily in the spring and summer and nearly every day in the fall and winter. This 20 minute trip offers great chances to spot dolphins, sea turtles and even manatees! We often spot sea birds on the ride to and from Shell Key!

Shell Key is also home to a large nature preserve, where nearly half of the island is blocked to allow the native seabirds a section of undisturbed beach. Come out and enjoy a beautiful day of fun in the sun!

For camping enthusiasts, we offer an overnight experience on Shell Key! All you need is your “camper” ferry ticket, a camping permit from Pinellas County, and all your camping gear to have an epic night under the stars! This is an unbelievably unique opportunity to camp out on a secluded island.

Had a wonderful time with Captain Todd and Braylynn. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. The experience was amazing with a lot of shells, and seeing all the dolphins, fish, crabs, rays, and other wildlife!

Well, where do I begin. PLEASE READ!! For you safety!! We went out August 9th..we were to be picked up from shell island at 2:30..earlier if you see lightning...well around 2:10 we heard thunder and saw lightning..we walked back to the pick up spot, they arrived at 2:30..seeing the storm they should have come earlier..safety first right?!! Not with this company..we fought a gale storm in the gulf for over and hour!! My son and husband had to run from the front of the boat and back pulling anchors tying them off to keep us into the wind and not capsize. The winds and hail were so strong they blew all the life best stored in the top out to sea! People were crying. To say it was a dangerous situation is an understatement, the captain ran us aground at one point..and said "he ideally would like people to get out" "it's shallow"...I felt out said no one was leaving this boat and he needed to call the Coast Guard...they don't put safety first! They offer people candy..after we made through without anyone dying?!! This is not an exaggeration..if anything I left out some of the more terrifying parts..I am writing this because what happened was bad and I don't want it to happen to anyone else

Downright dangerous, captain cannot handle a crisis. Squall came up and he ran the boat a ground. Wanted several men to get off the boat. All the life jackets blew off the vessel. But he was going to send out passengers without life jackets into a storm and lightning. Screamed at some poor guy to find his GPS, like this passenger knew where it was. You could see the storm coming in for miles and he did nothing to prepare. Some passengers had to put out the anchors, while the boat was rocking and lightening was crashing. It least the Minnow, had the skipper and gilligan being courageous.
