I had no idea Mardi Gras started in Mobile. This was a fascinating museum that didn't suck up a huge chunk of my 1 day in Mobile. Give it an hour and enjoy the displays- amazing "costumes" and fun float props. The building is quite stunning. Definitely worth the small admission price.

I've been to the Mobile Carnival Museum twice in the last year and it's one of the most fun museums I've ever visited. The exhibits are amazing and there are a lot of them. You can gawk at the incredible costumes and trains worn by past Mardi Gras kings and queens and see some of the decorations from the parade floats while learning about the history of Carnival in the city where it all began in the United States. There's an excellent film too. My granddaughters especially loved this museum.
