Skunk Train: Pudding Creek Express from Fort Bragg

Overview
This relaxed and scenic 7-mile roundtrip journey departs the Depot in downtown Fort Bragg year-round, traveling along the beautiful Pudding Creek Estuary and passing into primeval ancient redwoods to the tranquil setting of Glen Blair Junction.

Trains will stop at Glen Blair Junction for 15 minutes, allowing you to get off and stretch your legs and explore. Or, if you’d like to spend more time walking our trails amongst the redwoods, you can remain and catch the next train (roughly two hours later). Plenty of time to explore. Feel free to bring a packed lunch (no alcohol, please) to enjoy at one of our picnic tables.

These were some of the first tracks ever laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885, and we've been carrying passengers on them ever since.

We had a wonderful time on the Pudding Creek Express. It is a comfortable train with snacks and drinks available on the train. The scenery is lovely and everyone, young and old had a great time. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Ft. Bragg/Mendocino area.

We felt the train ride was rather overpriced, $50/person to go 3 5 miles up and back was rather steep. The recorded commentary was good, but in reality, you don't see the Redwoods until you're almost at the end of the line. Our main recommendation, please put secure metal railings on the portable ramp that passengers must use in order to get off the train and onto the observation deck. If you are handicapped, prone to dizziness or have vertigo, that plank could freak you out. There's quite a drop off and it gave us pause. Just an FYI!

What a great experience! We had our choice on interior or exterior cars and could move freely between. The conductors and engineers were amazing. Even our teen daughter had a great time. The stop was breathtaking as we took a short adventure amongst the redwoods and along the creek. Can't wait to come back!
