Skunk Train: Wolf Tree Turn from Willits

Overview
This 2 hour round trip will take you from the Willits valley floor to the highest point on our rail line. During this trip you will pass through Tunnel #2 and descend into the redwood-thick Noyo River Canyon – an amazing ecological wonderland, and an excellent opportunity to discover the mighty giants that made Mendocino County famous.

The train will stop briefly at Crowley while you enjoy the splendor of one of the oldest and most iconic trees along our route. The Wolf Tree was so named for the large growth off of one side – woodsman called these wolf trees because they choke out smaller trees and underbrush. Passengers are able to get off the train during our stop at Crowley, to better enjoy the views.

You'll make the trip to Crowley on board one of our historic Diesel-Electric engines.

It was a nice relaxing train trip. Especially we loved the part where the train went through a tunnel. However, in case you don’t have a kid, it might feel a bit overpriced. The woods through which the train took us to “Crowley” is not super dense or anything spectacular for that matter. There are just a couple of redwood trees you will get to see. I felt that the road we took from Fort Brag to reach Willits was more scenic than the path that the train took. Nevertheless, it was a nice and relaxing experience. I’d probably not do it twice but its definitely a good one time thing.

I had done the one out of Ft Bragg so took my parents to do this one. Love the old timey feel and attention to detail. This train had the Train Singer which in addition to the info provided by the Conductor, really made the trip. Talented and entertaining fellow! It’s a nice, pretty ride into the redwoods with a. Chance to step off and walk a bit into them. Good range of concessions, but the popcorn tasted odd to me. All in all, a well recommended experience in the area.
