Skunk Train: Wolf Tree Turn from Willits

Overview
This 2 hour round trip will take you from the Willits valley floor to the highest point on our rail line. During this trip you will pass through Tunnel #2 and descend into the redwood-thick Noyo River Canyon – an amazing ecological wonderland, and an excellent opportunity to discover the mighty giants that made Mendocino County famous.

The train will stop briefly at Crowley while you enjoy the splendor of one of the oldest and most iconic trees along our route. The Wolf Tree was so named for the large growth off of one side – woodsman called these wolf trees because they choke out smaller trees and underbrush. Passengers are able to get off the train during our stop at Crowley, to better enjoy the views.

You'll make the trip to Crowley on board one of our historic Diesel-Electric engines.

What a great experience! The staff was absolutely the best! The "Train Singer" was awesome, welcoming and had great dad jokes! The cars were clean, the open air car was wonderful. I would recommend the Wolf Tree Turn

This Advertised as “Steaming through the Redwoods”BUT the scenery was more California Oaks, spindly pines, smaller young Redwoods, and a few of the larger Redwoods. NOT the “journey through the REDWOODS” that I expected. Very friendly staff, and we loved the way they blew the train whistle at every opportunity! Disappointing trip if you are going to discover and hoping to see a grove of large coastal redwoods.

The entire trip was enjoyable! If you love nature this trip is full of scenery and has a rich historical background narrated by the train's conductor. The overall trip is 16 miles and the price at first may seem a little steep, but once you experience it you will feel that the money ($59 per adult) is well worth it. The part that surprised us the most was the short layover in Crowley. Someone really put some thought into the overall experience and set-up a lot of fun activities for the kids. There are also food and drinks available along with an open car and entertainment so younger children don't get bored.
