Skunk Train: Wolf Tree Turn from Willits

Overview

This 2 hour round trip will take you from the Willits valley floor to the highest point on our rail line. During this trip you will pass through Tunnel #2 and descend into the redwood-thick Noyo River Canyon – an amazing ecological wonderland, and an excellent opportunity to discover the mighty giants that made Mendocino County famous.

The train will stop briefly at Crowley while you enjoy the splendor of one of the oldest and most iconic trees along our route. The Wolf Tree was so named for the large growth off of one side – woodsman called these wolf trees because they choke out smaller trees and underbrush. Passengers are able to get off the train during our stop at Crowley, to better enjoy the views.

You'll make the trip to Crowley on board one of our historic Diesel-Electric engines.

I really liked the Railroad Singer! I also found the train itself to be of interest, particularly how the engine changed directions.

I am really disappointed in this company. I set this trip up for my folks and when they became ill, I contacted the folks at skunk train for a refund 2 weeks in advance. this was two weeks before the train leaves the station. Also note that if your not there 10 mins before hand your seats can be given away to pepole on stand by. This tells me they have no problems filling the train with customers. So why the no refund policy? Clearly they don't care what reason you have to cancel, they just want the money. And to beat all when canceling i was charged a fee of 25.00 now this would be fine if they refunded me my money, but no it's a credit for a train ride that my folk will never go on now. sure you can by murch from there online store why. And the train ride is totally half of what it use to be. If you plan on this train ride make sure you buy your tickets there cause there are NO refunds......

Fun train ride through the redwoods. The train goes back into redwood forests to a stop where you can see monstrous redwoods including a 1500 year old tree that is truly enormous. While on the ride you are serenaded by a singer singing old train rides. Enjoyable ride and beautiful trees. The only downside is it is a bit pricey. However, the memories and pictures will make it worth the cost.
