Went to use the binoculars and two of them were broken. Only found out after we put the money in. Told guy working the gift shop who told me to speak to the person working the elevator as they are in charge of it. Person working the elevator told me there was nothing he could do and had to speak to someone downstairs. No urgency to put a sign on the binoculars that there were not working. Never did get the 1 back.
A true Chicago Experience!
This is an awesome view of Chicago, but I highly recommend timing this correctly. Otherwise, be prepared to wait 3-4 hours to complete your entire experience. There are lines and lines and more lines. So be prepared to wait or go early.
I had come to Chicago a month or so back for Memorial Day weekend, and the line for this this on a Sunday was out the door with 2 hour wait. I passed on doing this at that time, and decided next time in Chicago, I would come during the middle of the week at the beginning of the day, and avoid the rush. That worked like a charm.
The price is in-line with all of these kind of tourist traps at the 30-40.00 depending on your discounts, buying ahead online, combo packages or whatever. You have CityPass and other options around, including T.A., where you can save some money on the booking.
Once you go in, there is a history of Chicago and SkyDeck with videos and exhibits, which most people do not seem to even bother with. They just rush to the elevators to go upstairs. I love History, so I watched the videos and read through the different displays they had on the way up.
You pack into an elevator that gives you a narrative while you head up telling you about how high you are, and comparing it to other buildings around the world, etc.. Pretty interesting if you are into that kind of thing. Once you are at the top, there is some more stuff to read. Then you have the videos as you walk around the floor looking at the city. Amazing to say the least.
Once you get around the corner, you have the skydecks for your selfies. Of course they have some photographers on-hand to take your pictures from different angles so you get different views. Ours also offered to take some pictures of us with my phone, so that was nice. The upsell photo afterwards was something like 25.00 which is pretty standard for such things. You had the option to buy there, or buy online later.
This is pretty incredible all things considered. I do not get excited over this kind of stuff, but I have to admit looking through the pictures, I was glad we did this and knocked it off the bucket list.
