A must visit if in Chicago and worth the cost. There was quite a lot of information about Chicago's history and then you were able to go to the viewing area to see Chicago in 360. The views are amazing and it was nice to do this on the first day and then walk around later to see the same buildings up close. The ledge is a bit of a gimmick and you're only given a small amount of time in there and if staged photo ops aren't your thing then it's a bit awkward. Otherwise a fantastic attraction!

I went with my family to Chicago, this was on the "recommended" list I found. The Willis tower, formerly known as Sears tower, is visible from all over the city. It seems like one of those "can not miss" attractions. And the view was incredible. There is a little glass outcropping you stand in, so you can look 180 degrees, and straight down. There are regular windows on all sides of the building, so you can look out all around, but only a few "booths" where you can also look straight down. Like so many attractions today, they are "pushy" with their picture sales. You start at the ground floor, at your assigned time, and there are some displays to look at as you wait for the elevator. Then you are quickly brought up to the observation floor. You get in a line to wait for an open booth, wait was not long, but your family has "use" of that booth for up to 5 minutes (I think they said please move on after 5 minutes), it was enough time. Immediately you are told to stand against the outside wall and look up, flash, a camera takes your picture. And of course when you get back to the ground floor, your photos are printed and ready for you to buy. From an environmental standpoint, I really wish that they had your picture on a screen and you could say "yes or no" rather than putting out the printed pictures in front of you to buy, or throw out. And after the cost of tickets, cost of parking (or public transportation) to get there, pictures are just one more expense. So certainly is a great attraction, should be on your "must do" list when you visit Chicago, they just lost one star for the "pushiness" of shoving printed pictures at you as soon as you get back to the ground level.

We had a great time visiting the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) in downtown Chicago. As the highest observation deck in the city, it offers breathtaking views in all four directions. Thanks to our Chicago CityPass, we enjoyed expedited entry, which was a huge plus since both the ground-level line and the wait for The Ledge seemed quite long. While The Ledge is considered the highlight, we found ourselves more captivated by the experience of watching the city transition from daylight to the beautifully illuminated nighttime skyline. The 90-second limit per group on The Ledge felt a bit rushed, though still thrilling and absolutely worth doing, a more relaxed attitude really lets you soak in the views. If you're debating between the Willis Tower and the John Hancock 360 Skydeck, we've visited both and found them equally impressive. Both offer a 360 degrees view over the city so you can’t really go wrong with either. If you’re using the CityPass, we’d recommend sticking with the Willis Tower, as visiting both observation decks might not be necessary unless you have extra time to spare (the John Hancock center is also included in the CityPass, but as an optional activity as opposed to the Willis Tower which is non-optional).
