What To Expect
1
Apache Trail Scenic Drive
Only minutes from the city, the Apache Trail is the perfect way to experience the beauty of the Sonoran desert. Arizona’s first designated “Historic Highway” and a scenic byway, the original Apache Trail was a footpath by which the local Apache Tribe traveled through the Superstition Mountains.

3
Canyon Lake
During your tour along the Apache Trail, you will also be treated to a steamboat cruise on Canyon Lake by the famous Dolly Steamboat.
4
Lost Dutchman State Park
Tortilla Flat has become a fixture of the Apache Trail since its inception in 1904. Not fire, drought, or bandits could destroy this hearty stage stop which holds onto its rich tradition through its architecture and unique decorating sense. If you get too warm, you can quite literally “saddle up” to the bar and enjoy a cold beverage to cool you down. This rugged landscape in the Sonoran Desert has been the jewel that some men were looking for with the most famous involving the Lost Dutchman Mine. Rumored to have found the largest gold vein in the west, German immigrant Jacob Waltz trusted his newly found gold deposit to no one and the secret of its location was buried with him. If you have the “golden eye” maybe you can spot it while on tour!
5
Tortilla Flat
Two of the more colorful stops along the Apache Trail are Goldfield Ghost Town and Tortilla Flat.
6
Goldfield Ghost Town
Goldfield, aptly named after the precious metal found in the area, was incorporated in 1892. For five long years this town was a gold miner’s paradise, however, soon after the vein stopped producing Goldfield quickly turned into a gold mining ghost town. During the tour you will have a chance to spend time in this restored ghost town practicing your gold panning techniques, marveling at the original mining gear, or even spending some time at Lu Lu’s Bordello if you dare.

We had an amazing time on the Apache Trail tour. The highlight was the steamboat ride. Very relaxing and the views were fantastic. Even saw some bighorn sheep walking up the cliffs. Really enjoyed getting away from the city and seeing the sights. Saw a wild west shootout in the ghost town. The van was comfortable and the guide was great, very knowledgeable and friendly.

We did the day trip to the Apache Trail with the Dolly Steamboat ride. Our pickup was on time and the van was clean, had great viewing windows and the seats were as advertised, captain chairs. It was a great experience start to finish. Our guide,Tracy, was the consummate professional! Polite, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of our tour. He was eager to please and a pleasure to be around! We had an unfortunate road closure, because of an accident, and he handled it calmly and professionally. We saw some amazing views throughout the day. The steamboat ride was a real bonus to the tour. We had a great tour, a great group and totally enjoyed our day! Perfect!!!

The Apache Trail tour along with the Dolly Steamboat ride are some of our favorite tours to take out. As always, it is difficult to choose favorites between such incredible excursions all over the Southwest! Tracy, along with all of our guides, certainly expresses a heartfelt passion for the Southwest and it shines throughout on tour. Our team of expert guides knows how to take care of our guests out there on the road, from sightseeing, knowledge, and road etiquette and safety. Until next time, Nathan DETOURS

The tour collection point wasn't ideal for us, especially as we didn't have a car, but we loved everything else. Our tour guide, Dan, was friendly and knowledgeable. He had supplies of water and umbrellas, which we were grateful for as it rained at one point. We really enjoyed seeing the area around Phoenix, learning something of its history and the local flora. The trip on the dolly steamboat was a delight with wonderful commentary. A great day out, and one we would happily do again.
