Overview
This very popular eco-adventure and combines the best of a boat tour, a kayak tour and a walking tour in a single great learning experience. Depending on the season, you can encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds. A very comfortable transport boat will bring you deep into Everglades National Park with your Florida Master Naturalist guide. Once at the first destination, the tour slows down using very stable, comfortable kayaks to get you close to the flora and fauna. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin! (No previous kayaking experience is required and there are single and two-person kayaks on every tour). I enjoyed walking through the mangroves on the uninhabited island. Our guide was knowledgeable, thorough, responsive, and kind. My 7-year-old grandson was treated "like a grown-up" and he responded in kind... showing maturity and capability even though he was having unfamiliar experiences. We enjoyed seeing the bald eagle and the nest with the baby. It was a but humbling to be so far away from any people or man-made artifacts or sounds. I strongly recommend!

This excursion was the highlight of our trip! Captain Dan gave us the experience of a lifetime in the Everglades. Our journey started off with a question mark as uncharacteristic fog began to roll in over the Ten Thousand Islands. Despite the beauty of the islands all around us we were worried that fog and rough waters would scuttle our afternoon. But when Captain Dan found the dolphins, everything turned around! It is hard not be amazed by those magnificent creatures, and it was clear that they were hanging around to have a look at us too! Captain Dan shared a lot of info on the dolphins and the rest of the park's wild inhabitants too. We then made our way to a beach for a short walk and a chance to observe sea birds ( we saw terns, sandpipers, pelicans, osprey, and a nesting pair of bald eagles!) and the sun came back out! The rest of our trip was the brilliant sun that we were hoping for! We entered the maze of islands where Dan led us on a gorgeous kayak trip through the mangroves, through some secret backwaters where we could have been the only people on earth for all we knew. It was all a delight, but what really made our day, as we cruised across the glimmering water as the sun started to set, was another dolphin sighting. This time, in the calm inner waters, one dolphin gave us a real treat and jumped fully out of the water to get a look at us! Amazing! An amazing afternoon that was just what we were looking for. Thanks, Dan!
