My friend and I were in Anaheim for a convention last week, and had a free day to do some site seeing. Neither of us had ever been to CA before so we started with some landmarks in LA, and booked this wine hike two hours before the start time.
We weren't sure what to expect but just the drive up to Saddle Rock Farm was worth the afternoon. We arrived, checked in at the trailer to the right of the Safari "lodge", and waited to begin the hike. I should note, don't let the word "hike" deter you. As long as you've got a good pair of tennis shoes on and don't mind walking on uneven ground, both up and downhill, you'll be good to go.
Our tour guide, Kurt, was hilarious. We were a small group of about eight people, and we laughed and enjoyed the two-hours together. The scenery was beautiful. Kurt pointed out important landmarks, gave some great facts and was kept us all laughing with his animal name puns.
The three wines we tasted were wonderful and I appreciated to "down" time in the middle of the hike to wander the garden. I almost didn't want the tour to end; we were all having a great time.
Of all the places I visited in CA this trip, my favorite experience was this afternoon in Malibu. Kurt was also gracious enough to talk to my friend and I afterwards, and provided us some great local recommendations of places to see and eat at for the duration of our evening in Malibu. Highly recommend :)
