Observe the endangered West Indian Manatee in Crystal River’s idyllic Kings Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Your US Coast Guard licensed captains and guides will take you into the 600 acre spring fed refuge waters for viewing and snorkeling with these slow moving wild giants. All equipment, fees, snacks and beverages are included.

What To Expect

River Ventures

Embark on your journey with a Coast Guard Certified Master Captain who will be your in water chaperon, educator and photographer. Your tour will run four hours from start to finish and everything you will need is included for one price. You will begin at our full-service tour facility, where you will be educated about the animals in a classroom type setting and receive tips for your snorkel tour to make the most of your day. You will be taught the in’s and out’s of ‘passive interaction’ as this ensures that the animals enjoy the experience as much as we do! You will then be suited up and transported to the dock, where a Coast Guard certified covered pontoon will be waiting for you. This rich estuary will amaze…..birds, fish and wildlife abound! Submerge yourself in the manatee’s world! Finish your adventure by viewing your Captain’s photos back at our facility and be sure to visit our one-of-a-kind gift shop! Our well-informed staff will direct to other local attractions, restaurants and answer of your questions before you are on your way.

Our guide JJ and Captain Rhonda were great! It was a relaxed atmosphere, but you could tell the respect and they both have fir these magnificent creatures! So knowledgeable about their habits and the geo area too. Don’t bother with trying to take pictures either! JJ did a great job with that and videos too. Once in a lifetime experience!

What an incredible morning in the springs of Crystal River, FL! River Ventures, Captain Hailey and Guide/Photographer JJ showed us an amazing time on and in the water! We were able to see every part of a Manatees life during the winter. We saw them sleeping, pups nursing, eating and even mating! We also learned about the natural springs and the reason the Manatees are here for the winter. Incredibly the springs allow for fresh water and saltwater fish to live in very close proximity. I have never seen that before in such abundance and in such clear water. These Manatees will move out into the Gulf of Mexico in the summer as far away as Texas and the Florida Keys. Wow! How incredible a morning, plus the weather was perfect! On the recommendation of Hailey and JJ we finished it off with an incredible lunch at Seafood Seller! You should plan a trip to experience this incredible piece of nature!

This tour. Whew! To say it was epic, doesn’t quite do it justice. Captain Troy and Guide Jose provided an exceptional experience and made us feel so at ease. I want to do this every single weekend now. Ha! If you are uncertain who to book for a manatee tour, I highly HIGHLY recommend River Venture!
