Join us on a full-day, small-group wine tour of the Spectacular Napa Valley wine country! You’ll visit three charming, back roads wineries and be served a picnic lunch in an idyllic winery setting. Your tour guide will tell fascinating stories and share many interesting tidbits about local history, culture and wine making. Our specialty is intimate, light hearted and truly memorable experiences. Your guide will set up a tasty picnic lunch for you at a picturesque winery. Once the tour concludes, you will be dropped off from where you were picked up. The tour typically has 8-12 guests on board.

We are showing awesome (and COVID-safe) wine tours! Vehicles are frequently sanitized. Hand sanitizer on bus. Per CDC transportation guidelines, we recommend guests wear masks on board the tour shuttle. Safe, but still really fun.

What To Expect

Napa Valley

Your tour will begin with pickup from your Napa Valley hotel. Where you are staying will define the tour region that you will be visiting. If your accommodations are outside of the winery region, you can arrange to meet us a general meeting spot. You’ll visit three charming, backroads wineries and be served a picnic lunch in an idyllic winery setting. Your tour guide will tell fascinating stories and share many interesting tidbits about local history, culture and wine making. This is not a smarmy or touristy activity. Our specialty is intimate, light-hearted and truly memorable. This tour is sure to entertain with a very approachable and easy-going style. Discover and savor new experiences tasting some of the world’s most celebrated wines. Our typical guest is not necessarily a wine expert but keen to learn a bit about wine and wine-making, and is open to sharing the experience with a few other like-minded wine adventurers.

This was our first time visiting Napa. We were picked up from our hotel around 10:15 and I would say by 10:45 we had picked up the rest of our guests and were at our first winery. We visited 4 wineries- two smaller/boutique wineries in Varozza Vineyards and Fleury Estate Winery, as well as two larger winieries in BV and Providence- we were back at our hotel around 5:30-6. Overall the trip was excellent- our tour guide James was great and entertaining. Tastings were normally between $15-$25 per person but these are discounted rates- if you went outside the tour they would be closer to $30-$50 per person. Most of the wineries would waive 1 tasting fee for every 2 bottles of wine you bought (most bottles are at least $40-$60). You can also buy a box to place the wine in for about $10- we bought 8 bottles and all made it safely back in our check in luggage. I would highly recommend!

Thanks very much for your detailed comments, Jeffrey; it's great to hear you really enjoyed the tour and that you liked James so much! I can tell he puts a lot of thought and effort into his tours and I love to see him getting credit for that. Tasting fees have risen quite a bit in recent years, so we have been increasingly proactive in securing discounted fees for our Join-in tour guests. Most wineries on this tour will still offer a $15pp tasting, (waived with a purchase), but also offer other, pricier tasting options (older vintages, food pairings, etc.) Cheers! Don

We had a great experience with Platypus tours. I highly recommend them! We had a group of 12 from all over the country coming together to Napa Valley for the first time. We were able to all fit in one shuttle van which many of the other companies could not fit us all together. Melissa worked with us from the beginning on setting up a tour that would work for our time line, our interests, and our budget. She came up with great ideas with a variety of tastings, delicious lunch, and fun day. Melissa was enthusiastic as well as very informative on educating us about the area, the wineries, and the owners. We came away with not only a wonderful experience but we learned so much as well. Melissa provided us with a tray of delicious cheeses and crackers between stops. She also ran out to Dean and Delucas while we had one tour ,for our picnic lunch of salads and sandwiches that we enjoyed outside looking out onto the beautiful vineyard. Platypus made it such an easy experience for us. I booked the tour, spoke to our tour guide Melissa, and she came up with a plan. She then contacted me with the plan and we made adjustments as necessary and it was done! A great way to see Napa Valley. I would definitely use them again!

The experience you described is a private tour, and as you discovered, we can customize these quite a bit for you. You may choose your own wineries, or have us suggest them based on what you've told us about how you want your tour day to look (wine caves, barrel-tastings, food pairings, ghost winery visits, meeting owners/wine makers, etc.) We do private tours from one guest on up to fifty or more. This is my third time with Platypus and it was every bit as good as the first two. We brought another couple who are not wine enthusiasts (they were after the trip) James was a great host. He provided valuable knowledge, great attitude and wonderful winery selections. All of the arrangements from booking to final drop off were spot on. The cheese plate, lunch and hydration were all appreciated. It is also great that you can negotiate to provide us with low cost tasting fees. Thanks once more!
