It was a rainy Saturday so it was a perfect day to take the wine bus tour. We were 3 generations traveling together for our girls trip. Our host was Bob. He was so knowledgeable and personable. His stories were great and the detailed information he gave not just about the wineries but the areas we drove through was very interesting. Loved going to the smaller wineries. They seemed to really want us there. Our favorite was The Hagafen winery. The girls were laid back but informative. Wish we could have sat outside that day but it never stopped raining. All in all a fantastic day.

Admittedly, we had a pretty wet winter and springtime here. I'm so glad you figured out that the Napa Valley can be oh-so-special even on a rainy day! Bob is a truly great tour guide. At only a couple of seasons under his belt, he's one of the newer guides, but he came to us with great chops, having done a fair amount of winery work previously. However, I've learned that lots of relevant experience does not necessarily make for a great guide. I interview a lot of tour guide candidates, and here's my biggest litmus test: After interviewing a person for ninety minutes or more, can I imagine myself spending all day with her (or him)? What would that look like? Engaging and pleasant? Or would I be trying to figure out how to work the emergency exit after five minutes? Bob is one of those people you would be more than happy to spend the day with. I would, for sure. I promise never to hire anyone who wouldn't pass that test. Thanks for your feedback. C'mon back sometime! - Don

My husband, parents and I visited Napa Valley for the weekend, and decided to book a Napa wine tour with Platypus after a lot of research and review reading. And we were so happy we did! It exceeded our expectations! The wineries we visited were small and private, all the wine we tasted was outstanding, our tour guide was knowledgeable and kind, lunch was tasty and filling, our guide offered us plenty of water to keep us hydrated, the ride was comfortable, and the whole experience was simply effortless. Our favorite part: the friendships we made with the other people in the tour! If you're thinking about booking a wine tasting in Napa Valley, do not think twice and go with Platypus. If (or when!) we come back again to Napa, we'll definitely book with them again. No doubt! Thanks for an amazing experience, Platypus team!

You are so welcome, Mariell. It was an honor to have you all on board! I absolutely love that you noted your tour guide was knowledgeable AND kind. So many of our guides could be described as 'kind', and we do indeed consider empathy when bringing on new staff, but it's not the kind of thing that is easy to cite in our advertising. Still, in my experience (and I've taken a lot of tours), knowledgable without empathetic does not make for a very compelling tour guide. Thanks very much for your comments. We would be over the moon to see you again! - Don

Dan picked us up and took us to 4 great vineyards. He was very knowledgeable about each place we went and as we picked up folks from other stops. We had a great group of folks and will be recommending this tour company to our friends. Great time and got to meet some of the owners of the smaller places. Would definitely do again! Patrick

Hey Patrick! Thanks for the shout-out. Danny (as he seems to prefer) is really well-informed and super easy-going. I get him only on a part-time basis, because he manages a winery tasting room, also. I'd love to be able to use him more. I've always been aware that one of the best aspects to this tour is the other folks on board, they are almost always people you will be so happy just getting to know. Of course, we can't take credit for that...but there it is. Cheers! - Don
