Our guide Brian was absolutely fantastic! He made our tour with his knowledge and humour, he plays videos on the journey there and back to help you understand the history and current events at the park.
We went end of March on our tour and the weather was absolutely perfect, we had lots of cloud and mist at first which made for really good atmospheric photos, then we had some sun which was really nice and on the way through the park we had some snow! During the tour we managed to see a bear and Brian did his best to swing the van around so we could get a good look at the bear, Brian also packs binoculars, telescopes and a great camera which he used to take some photos of the Bear and he sent them to us a couple of days later.
The van that we had was a Mercedes sprinter type tour bus, the seat space isn’t the greatest in all honesty but the scenic route and entertainment from the driver and the DVDs are enough of a distraction and isn’t a deal breaker.
On the way we stopped off at a retail park where there is a supermarket that sells everything including some sandwiches and pastry items with a coffee bar… so don’t worry if you can’t get anything before the journey as you stop there and can stock upon supplies. It was at this stop that Brian advised we got some travel sickness pills just incase as there is a bit of a winding road up the mountain, so that might be something worth packing to take with you from the start.
Unfortunately the giant sequoia tree route has been closed off by the park, completely out of the guises hands due to safety, which just meant we got to stop off at more vista points and spend more time there.
If you’re spending time in San Francisco, if you have a day free and if you even remotely like nature and mountains then do not hesitate to book on this tour the company was fantastic their communication was spot on. Brian would email a day before to confirm if you’re still coming and if you’re still staying at the same place… after he’s heard back from all the guests he then gives you an ETA which was spot on.
