Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco

Overview
Take a day trip from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park, described as the crown jewel of the country's many splendid national parks. You will be guided on a coach tour to highlights such as Bridalveil Falls, Tunnel View, El Capitan, and Yosemite Falls, with a stop for a 1-mile (1.6-km) walk into a grove of giant sequoias*.

Our vans only take 15 passengers, so we are able to stop at more places with less time for loading and unloading of passengers.

We left SF at 5 a.m. with the Bay area still shrouded in fog. The climb out through Oakland was a chance to doze a little. Halfway stop in Oakdale at Raley's was great place to stretch our legs. New Priest Grade Rd was exhilarating - we had a number of acrophobes in the van (myself included) who were sweating by the time we finished that 8 mile stretch. Seeing the effects of the 2013-2014 Rim fire was a shock to everyone. Entrance to the park was a breeze. No line, no wait. In fact, the entire trip, there were no crowds at all anywhere, even though it was Sunday. Perhaps it was due to all the haze from the wildfire smoke. Don, our driver and tour guide, works this trip frequently. He knows the staff at all the stops. Throughout the trip he provided commentary and education. His knowledge and demeanor added a huge value to this tour. One caution - the giant sequoia grove is an intense hike, one mile down a steep paved slope. The mile back up was grueling. Be sure to take plenty of water. Would we do it again? Yes, indeed, but skip the sequoia hike.

Our guide, Alberto, was amazing, informative and shared so many tips!! The Yosemite Valley and stops awe-inspiring! What stops us from giving a five star review was the transportation. If you take this trip (small group Yosemite) hope you’re not among the last two groups picked up and stuck in last two rows of the sprinter van. There is absolutely no air movement. Despite Alberto’s best efforts, no cool air or circulation made it to these rows,, so for 7 hours of your day, in a vehicle, you are hot, sweaty (just from sitting still) and verging on miserable. The saving Grace of it all was the pictures we walked away with and newfound knowledge of area shared by Alberto. However, we cannot say we’d recommend the tour if the vehicle isn’t updated with a rear fan in the future - especially for the cost of experience and being a relatively new vehicle. Ourselves and the other family would have to advise caution. We would tell people for the same price, take the full sized coach bus.

Sadly, we are aware of the issue with the back row of that bus and are doing our best to switch it out from our fleet. The morning of your tour, we had an emergency with the scheduled bus and had to take it instead — or cancel the tour. We are very sorry and appreciate the feedback so this never happens again.

Alberto was a great tour operator for us providing plenty of history and helpful hints for the free time in the park. This allows you to see as much of Yosemite as you could in a one day trip. The park warrants more time of course, but if you do not have it, this is the next best option. It is well worth the expense and time.
