Yosemite was a bucket list, so booking this day trip while in SF was a definite for me. I came here with my husband and 3 boys. Ages 10, 15, 17. The park itself is worth it but the traveling part is why I only gave it 4 stars. The tour guide Brian was full of energy and very knowledgeable. He did his best to keep us entertained during the 8 hour road trip to and from Yosemite. The type of vehicle we were on was a sprinter bus/van that held 14 people. It was an older van and clean. My family and I sat in the second to last row. Going there I was excited so I was trying to ignore the fact that it was an extremely bumpy ride and the van constantly swayed back n forth. I’m guessing being in the back impacted this. There is a about 20 minutes of extreme winding high cliff roads that left me feeling a bit nauseous and tense and once in the park there continues to be much of the same but not as harsh. The driver did warn us and even suggested taking Dramamine. Geez he wasn’t kidding. Once we began the 3 major stops I completely forgot about these discomforts. However it was a rather hot day and the air conditioning was not efficient at all. So no relief was felt between stops. Again the beauty of the park made me just deal with this. The last stop is the sequoias which should definitely not be passed up. It’s a 1 mile hike down and of course the same back up. It’s totally worth it but coming up is definitely a work out! It would have been nice to finish the last part and cool off in the bus but it was so hot in there. We then started our journey back to SF(approx 4 hours). The winding road was not as bad because at least on the way back we were not in the edge! Anyhow the jerking back and forth was horrible on the way home. Perhaps the alignment of the vehicle was off because I felt it even going straight. It was so bad I couldn’t even rest and sleep. And it was hot. Overall it was an amazing experience and Brian did a great job and got us back safe and sound with once in a lifetime memories. I just felt compelled to let others know about the travel part. Not everyone fares well in those conditions. Take away: Definitely go BUT Be prepared to possibly have an uncomfortable 8 hours of travel Bring lumbar support if you have a bad back Bring a Neck pillow Maybe sit up front Bring a towel to wipe the sweat if it’s hot Be prepared for a 14-16 hour day, 6am to 9pm Wear hiking shoes Again it was worth it.

I was thinking I made a poor decision taking my 5 year old on a 4 hour drive each way. The trip was broken up very well with a visit to a supermarket on the way there and back, providing ample refreshment, food and bathroom opportunities. There was a very good documentary on the way up and a family-friendly movie on the way back to keep your mind off of the drive. Our guide, Brian, did a wonderful job injecting trivia, making sure we hit the high points and helping with family photos. I think he's done hundreds (literally) of these tours - he had all the answers. If I had to do it again, the only tips I'd have are 1) Weather - for some reason, I thought it'd be colder than it was. It was in the low 80s and a little cooler by the sequoias 2) Bring some other form of entertainment, if you have kids. My kid seemed to be occupied but we had a device with her preferred entertainment as well. 3) There are a couple of opportunities to play in the water if your kids want so bring water shoes and a towel if they're so inclined. Thanks for a great trip, Brian!
