What to Expect: We care about your health and safety. Please note that as of August 19, 2021, New York City is requiring a COVID-19 vaccination for admission to the Guggenheim for anyone who is eligible. At arrival, you will need to present valid vaccination documentation and a photo ID prior to gaining entry to the museum. Proof of vaccination may include NYC COVID Safe app, New York State Excelsior Pass, CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), NYC Vaccination Record, or an official immunization record from outside NYC or the U.S. More information can be found here. Children below the age of 12 will be allowed in with a vaccinated adult.

You’ll need to wear a three-ply mask regardless of vaccination status — staff is required to, too — practice social distancing, wash or sanitize your hands frequently, and pack light as our coat check is temporarily closed. Please plan ahead and read COVID-19 Safety Measures:

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

An internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century, the Guggenheim Museum in New York is at once a vital cultural center, an educational institution, and the heart of an international network of museums. Visitors can experience special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, lectures by artists and critics, performances and film screenings, classes for teens and adults, and daily 2 pm tours of the galleries led by museum educators. Cairo to Johannesburg, Rome to Barcelona, Paris to Prague, St. Petersburg to Miami, London to Seattle.....I’ve been to museums and Galleries in many countries. The Guggenheim in New York rates as the most pretentious, over-rated counterfeit cultural pit I’ve had the displeasure of wasting time at. A couple of Jackson Pollocks does not a gallery make. Sad, pathetic and entirely worth missing. Exhibits were only on 2 of the 6 floors, yet 25 dollars of the 25 dollars for the ticket were gleefully accepted. Give this a wide berth. You will never get back, the hour you waste here. Never.

The Guggenheim is experimenting with exhibiting during Covid. Re-opened very recently. There were only 2 of the galleries with actual exhibits of art. The main 'attraction' was a large screen hung from the center of the 'atrium' entrance area. The films were interesting, but not quite what I was hoping to see. The building itself is stunning, and of course being on the East side of Central Park, the walk through the park to get there was delightful. No refreshments/water was available. But that may come as vaccines become more prevalent.

Covid has created a very different but special Guggenheim. Do not expect the same crowd and large exhibits. Check the website carefully. That said, when we walked in, we were treated to dim lighting and an extraordinary opera. performance and grand piano. Jackson Pollock’s Mural was on exhibition. Quick 2 hours, but lovely. Fills a county girl’s soul with the arts.
