My wife and I were visiting the Sonoma/Napa valley region and decided to take one of the numerous wine tours advertized online. We had never been on a wine tour. After calling numerous companies and speaking in person to several people we did not get a good vibe. We did not want to take and extremely expensive and pretentious limousine tour or a tour bus with dozens of people and large impersonal service. We then contacted this company and we knew immediately we were in for a good time. We reserved a hotel close to the center of Sonoma (near the plaza- town square), since the pickup for the trolley was here – it also picks up from several hotels. The trolley is a beautiful and comfortable open air, 1920’s trolley. We were taken to four wineries over the day (started at 10am and got home around 4:30-5pm). The wineries ranged from large to small and costs associated with the wine tasting were modest. Not knowing any of the wine tasting etiquette, I thought I would be like a fish out of water, but at no time did I ever feel uncomfortable at my lack of knowledge. We visited Sebastiani, Buena Vista, BD Cohn and then the Mayo winery. All had their unique “feels.” The lady at the Mayo vineyard was lovely and the lunch included at the Buena Vista winery was set up by our driver was delicious and plentiful. The settings were lovely and it was perfect to coast through the wine region in this open air trolley. This is truly a fun way to spend the day, and a much safer alternative to considering driving oneself to and from the wineries since the latter will impact on how many wines you would like to taste. We only had 12 people on our trolley and by lunchtime we were all laughing and getting to know one another. This was a wonderful day that was orchestrated from start to finish by Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley Tours – thanks to all for giving us a day we will never forget.
