What To Expect
1
Italian Market
You'll start out exploring the 9th Street Italian Market (aka South 9th Street Curb Market), considered to be Americaā€™s oldest open-air market. At this must-see attraction dating back to the 1880s, wander past an array of stores teeming with cheese, chocolate, spices and olive oils. With your knowledgeable guide, meet the butchers, bakers, spice merchants and produce vendors who provide food samples to whet your appetite. Youā€™ll hear stories of the city's early immigrants and have a chance to recreate a famous scene from the 1970s blockbuster film Rocky.
2
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens
Then head to Philadelphiaā€™s Magic Gardens, a unique gallery and community art center that showcases more mosaic art from Isaiah Zagar. Meander through the indoor gallery, and be wowed by the massive outdoor mosaic structure while you hear city stories from your guide.
3
South Street
Throughout your tour, you'll pop on and off eclectic South Street, checking out shops, tattoo parlors, restaurants, and public art. Your tour concludes at the Magic Gardens. From here, your guide can give you recommendations on where to go to eat, drink, and shop along Phillyā€™s eclectic and dynamic South Street. Now that you're a bona fide local, you may even want to make an appointment for your new Urban Adventures tattoo.

Our tour guide, Arielle, was so knowledgeable about the South Philly area. Great tour and the Magic Gradens are amazing!

This tour is a must! It was sooo much fun. I don't know if I would have made it a point to go to this part of town on our own without this tour. We met at a good location, near the Italian markets. We received so many food samples, from fresh cheeses, balsamic vinegars and olive oil infusions, house made tortillas, and gelato. The mosaic gardens was very interesting. We actually got to go in the museum, which was really impressive. Nina was our guide and she was fantastic! She took us around charming neighborhoods, down to Penn's Landing briefly, showed us her personal community garden, and gave interesting facts about the city. We ended the tour near Jim's steaks, which is a pretty popular cheesesteak place. I didn't realize how many things we would see or how many food samples we would get. Nina actually sold me on the historic tour offered by the same company that day, which we enjoyed also. This tour exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend.
