What To Expect

Talkeetna Air Taxi

You will start your excursion by checking into our log cabin office at the Talkeetna State Airport 45 minutes prior to your flight departure. Be sure to bring your sunglasses, light jacket (in the summer) and plenty of memory on your camera. Board our ski-equipped aircraft and enjoy your pilots' commentary about the geological history and local wildlife on your individual headset. Continue your flight above Talkeetna and over the river systems of the Susitna valley as you enter into an incredible landscape of icefalls, glaciers and snow peaks. You'll be awed by the Great Gorge of the Ruth Glacier, filled with a 4,000 foot thick river of ice, making this one of the deepest gorges in the world. Add a glacier landing onto your trip for a highlight of your Alaska vacation. This will add 30 minutes onto your trip time for this chance to bask in awe inspiring scenery.

I was visiting Alaska with a tour beginning of June 2019 and one of the last optional trip was taking a plane to see the glacier at the base of Denali Mountain. When we arrived the people at Talkeetna Air Taxi were very friendly, competent and soon we were boarding a small plane. I was very surprised seeing that our pilot would be a young and beautiful woman(!). It turned out that Leighan (this was her name) was an excellent pilot. She was explaining us in very calmly voice where we are flying, what we are seeing and other interesting facts. The weather was a dream, sunny, almost no clouds, light wind. We landed on the glacier and when we stepped out it felt like euphoria for all of us :) We were taking the pictures, running around, sharing our thoughts. I can tell you that this place is special! Visiting Alaska and not taking Talkeetna Air Taxi to glacier is like missing the essential part of exploration. I highly recommend this activity. The unforgettable experience!

Booking was simple and the staff was very friendly. When we finally arrived a few months after we made the reservation, the staff treated us so well. Emily and the rest of the ladies at the check-in desk were fantastic. The flight was easy and smooth. Our pilot was very professional and made me feel confident in the ride, even though I was nervous about the flight. We did a glacier landing (strongly recommended) and it was unbelievable! Wear boots or they provide booties to keep your feet dry on the glacier. The only thing I would change would be to do a longer trip or do it again!

I always wanted to fly to a glacier but never expected to land on one. The view from the plane which was a ten seater was awesome. Everyone had their own window. We landed on Ruth Glacier, the view was phenomenal. I don't remember the pilot's name but he was very knowledgeable and was just enthuse as we were. Do the trip and you'll never regret it.
