Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

One of the most amazing experiences of my life! My sister and I did the three hour combo tour. I highly recommend! Our guide, Rebecca, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. She did a wonderful job. We saw a ton of wildlife. The sunset was beautiful. Then the bioluminescent was just magical. Such a neat experience and a wonderful company!

What can I say about this except WOW!! We were a group of 11 women, and we did the combo sunset/ bioluminescence tour. It was fabulous from start to finish. We had Sunny and Phil as our guides, and they did not disappoint. We loved the commentary by Sunny. Her dry sense of humor and perfect delivery were a huge treat. She was exceptional at getting us where we should be at the right time! We saw manatees, dolphins, and even a baby turtle!! (She tried very hard to get it and get some fishing line off of his tail.) The bioluminescence was off the charts, even those who had done that type of tour before were staggered by the brilliance and fire- it was like liquid fire running down your arm (without the pain!) The mosquitos were BAD. We had bug spray, and it was still bad. Sunny wore a net over her face/ head, and at first we thought it was silly to wear, but once the sun was down we changed our tune. They are viscous! Any time I am back in the area, I will use A Day Away tours, they were professional and delightful (AND cheaper!)
