Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

Kevin was great, we were lucky to have him all to ourselves and had a wonderful time with lots of info. We saw dolphins, manatee noses, beautiful sunset and the shiny jellyfish! Highly recommend!

Such an amazing experience. Our guide, Sunny was wonderful and knowledgeable. We saw a dolphin up close and a manatee. Going around the island with all the birds was great. The birds fly right overhead. We also saw and held the bioluminescence jelly combs! We will definitely do this again on a future trip.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening on the water with our knowledge and entertaining guide Jaden. Our 2.5 hours was filled with bio information and the opportunity to watch dolphins feed and play, several shy manatees passing by our kayaks, amd numerous birds including roseate spoonbills and white pelicans As the night sky set in we able to see the glowing jelly creatures who are believed to have been on earth for 550 million years. Jaden was so engaged and made sure we learned a lot and now have a new appreciation for a sea world that exists just off the Florida coast. Highly recommend... but be aware that just like everything in nature, the living creatures are seasonal in behavior so no guarantees of what you will see but definitely guaranteed that you will be a lot smarter about the ecosystem
