Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

My husband and I went for the bioluminescence tour. Was a little disappointed about seeing bioluminescence because we expected it to be very obviously visible as shown in photos, videos and people's reviews. Despite that, we still love our tour and enjoyed ourselves. Kayaking in the ocean at night as an experience worth paying for. And our tour guide, Brandy was amazing. She was very patient, informative and provided us an excellent tour. We really enjoyed our tour with her despite not being able to see the bioluminescence properly. Would definitely recommend A Day Away Kayak tours to other people but perhaps another type of tour.

The night was perfect to see the bioluminescence, and the guides were super informative and kept us intrigued the entire time. The water was warm and there was a wonderful light breeze to keep us cool, the jumping mullet were like looking at shooting stars in the water! Bring bug spray for before the tour and towels for after the tour! Anthony, Phillip, and John were great guides and we will be back!! - Boat "One-Oh" (10)
