Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

We absolutely loved this trip. We had a small group. We saw a gator, momma pig with her 5 piglets. Many birds and mullet jumping out of the water. My kids loved the bioluminescence experience and Bob was a great tour guide with lots of facts. We highly recommend this tour and make sure to use bug spray.

Last night we took the 10:45 p.m. tour with Molly. What a fun experience. If you have never seen the lagoon at night, you need to take advantage of this tour at least once. Molly was super with those who struggled with paddling their kayak, she was very knowledgeable about the habitat of the lagoon and was a fun person to talk to. Be prepared to have wet clothes from sitting inside the kayak. They offered a Triple A discount for members. A very memorable evening for our family.

Probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in my life. The second you enter the water the bioluminescence is all around you. You don’t have to paddle around and try to find it. Our tour guides were really nice and very knowledgeable. They kept the group together and really did a great job with the tour. We were on the water about 90 minutes and my arms were ok with that! I had my 9 year old daughter and 6 year old niece with my group. They were Wide awake and fully engaged for the whole tour. I can not recommend this tour enough. I will be back again and I’ll be bringing more family with me. Awesome experience!!
